The song, Never Never Never, was recorded and released on Shirley's 1973 LP titled, 'Shirley Bassey - Never Never Never'. This song originally titled 'Grande Grande Grande' was written by Tony Renis and Alberto Testa. The English version re-titled to 'Never Never Never' was written by Norman Newell.
ABOUT the LP - Never Never Never:
Never Never Never is a 1973 album by Shirley Bassey. Released in May 1973, this album saw a peak in the Shirley Bassey career revival that she was experiencing during the early 1970s. The album's lead single, the title track had been a hit, reaching No.8 in the UK Charts and remaining in the top 50 for 19 weeks, becoming one of her biggest and most well-known hits, and her only single to make three US charts: No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100, No.8 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, and No. 67 on the R&B Chart. The album soon followed and similarly entered the top 10, peaking at No. 10 during a 10 week run, and would go on to earn a silver disc. The album also was a hit in the US, peaking at No. 60 on the Billboard 200 amid positive reviews; it also hit No. 34 on the R&B Chart.

What is also unique is how Shirley uses facial, hand, arm and body movements to give each song the extra bit of magic. Unless you go all the way to the Vaudeville era, you won't see another artist who performs the way Shirley does. Today, many artists either dance their way through songs OR they have backup dancers for just about every song. Shirley is just different, and up until now no one has come along that performs that way Shirley does or did.

Her husband took his own life , that song is more to do with that , he wouldn't trust her , even though she didn't do anything , it played on his mind that she was , eventually , he took his own life , so you can imagine what it was like to sing this .

This song was of Italian Origin. Shirley heard the melody and loved it so she brought it back to the UK. Her good friend Norman Newell wrote the English lyrics to the song and Shirley recorded it for her 1973 album Never Never Never. Shirley and Kenneth Hume divorced in 1965. Hume was a gay man and the marriage never was going to work. Hume killed himself in 1967, and in 1968 she married an Italian man, Sergio Novak

It's always been this way, and this is why Shirley never did a duet album. She was afraid that she would out sing the other artist. Of course, over the years Shirley has done many successful live duets and she balanced out the sound by moving further away from the mic. Shirley's natural vibrato is a force of nature, that's for sure! But, to keep her voice in tip-top shape, Shirley religiously did grueling vocal exercises. Younger generation artists, unfortunately, depend on electronics and autotune. When paying $$$$ for a concert you never know if the person is actually singing live OR if their voice is being electronically enhanced. Regards, Scot
