The power and potency of her voice is just unbelievable,.she can project her voice like an opera singer..maybe Witney on her prime..but shirley keep her vocal abilities all of her career..one and one she could easily eclipse any other female singer next to her including Celine dion..brilliant!!!.

When Shirley started in the business back in 1953, her operatic vocal abilities received much attention from classical artists. Many said she could have been become an amazing classical alto. She was given the choice to proceed with a POP career or train to become a classical artist. Because Shirley was born into poverty, the fastest way up and out of her current situation was through POP music. Shirley's voice was natural, and for the first 30+ years she never had a singing lesson. After the death of her daughter in 1985 due to mysterious circumstances Shirley actually lost her voice. The doctors said there was nothing drastically wrong with her; it was just grief over her daughter and she needed time to heal. She also met with a formal classical artist Helena Channel who was working at the time as a vocal coach. Helena gave Shirley some great recommendations, which Shirley took to heart. As a result, Shirley's voice became stronger, and she even found an additional octave she didn't know she had!

Thanks to KZbin, there are no barriers based on where one lives in this world! Frank Sinatra once said, "Take Shirley Bassey who has the greatest pipes in the world". Judy Garland thought the world of Shirley's voice, and she took Shirley under her wing in the 1960s. They became great friends. Shirley was also Barbra Streisand's mother's (Diana) favorite singer. Depends on where you live. She was never as big and famous a star in the USA as she should have been. Way back in the day when radio was king, American DJs never gave her much love until the Goldfinger movie hit, nor after it. But she continued to evolve into a global superstar. No one could touch her when she was in her prime. Still one of my favorite entertainers...even though she was long, long, long before my time. I wish I could have seen her live before she retired. Gorgeous woman...amazing voice!

A lot of people agreed with you as Shirley's version sold as many, if not more units than the Beatles. George Harrison was an amazing writer, but there are just some songs that need an exceptional high-fidelity huge range vocalist to achieve a song's total potential. This was one of those songs!
