Hazel is a feel good show. it brings back a innocent time in America History. I was a small boy and was free and safe no matter where I went. The one who played the boy is two and a half years older me. There wasn't bad people who would hurt you. My mother's biggest fear is I might not look both ways before crossing the street. R.I.P We will always miss you.

Shirley is one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood and Broadway history! She's one of only 23 actors and actresses who have ever won the Triple Crown of Acting: Oscar, Tony, and Emmy Awards! She and the cast of, "Hazel", were genuinely like a family and they had great chemistry...Don DeFore (one of my favorite actors), Whitney Blake, and Bobby Buntrock (sadly died in a car accident at the young age of 21 in South Dakota)….Shirley "adopted" Bobby on the set and was like a son to her as Shirley never had children of her own. For the last season, the show changed networks (NBC to CBS), DeFore and Blake were dropped and replaced due to contract disputes, and the show lost its magic during the '65-'66 season....Shirley said she was having some health issues and she made the decision to end the show, even though the network was wanting to renew it for a 6th season (I'd heard that she greatly missed working with DeFore and Blake and decided it on that reason). She was truly a classy, benevolent, gracious, and loving lady and I miss her!

I have always had this question, and I am sure you can answer it for me - I was shocked when I learned how your father was let go from the show (Hazel), and always wondered if Shirley Booth could have done SOMETHING to prevent it. The movie stars and actresses and actors of yesterday had publicist who didn't allow their personal lives to be on public display unless it was good news publicity for a project. They controlled what got out and didn't let everything hang out just to be relevant. It was about their work not about their popularity like it is now. Folks now are in entertainment and some do not have a talent or skill just fans and followers. Shirley Booth was a good actress and earned the accolades and awards. I never could get into Hazel but she's wonderful. I just saw her in the 1966 Glass Menagerie which in many ways can be considered "definitive", in my opinion. I'd love to have an opportunity to see her and Gig Young in Harvey!!

I’m surprised to find the tone of voice she uses for many of her characters isn’t really the way she talks. It’s put on. Awesome
@mmdillon1 Жыл бұрын
For “Hazel,” she focused her voice in her mask (front of her face), creating the nasal sound that carried so well, and grated on Mr. B’s nerves…lol. :)

@INTERNETWORK Almost certainly.. but you NEVER can be too sure.. just watch him against his other interviews.. he's clearly drunk..and I don't mean just a LITTLE drunk. .I mean drunk off his ASS!

I got chills when Cavett says of Gig Young at 3:52, "Yes, he's been seeing rabbits for years." No doubt he was alluding to Young's profound alcoholism.

This is great. I think this is the first interview I have ever seen Ms. Booth in. She is a hoot. Funny, while I was watching her, I kept thinking of Geraldine Page.

I loved Shirley Booth….such a sweet women, and her acting is exceptional. She deeply draws you into her character either loving her or feeling annoyed by her! Lol….she was wonderful in The Glass Menagerie. Very annoying women….and Hazel……loving women. She’s wonderful….❤

Her performance in the movie HOT SPELL with Anthony Quinn, Shirley MCClaine, others is extraordinary! A master class that goes even deeper than her work in SHEBA. She's being dogged jy her husband (Quinn) fighting to hold on with everything. Brilliant performance. Underrated. She really was a great actress. 🤩💜🤩

Try to find "About Mrs. Leslie" (another triumph) and "The Matchmaker," in which she plays Dolly Levi.

My favorite role of hers is Mrs Leslie.... I wish TCM would show About Mrs Leslie more often; but, I watch Hazel reruns every day and I really love that show

I agree, too. I respect the Dick Cavett Show for getting great guests on its show but Cavett as an interviewer has always made me nervous. He constantly drops the ball and changes the subject before an idea is sufficiently explored.
@MTknitter225 жыл бұрын
MrQbenDanny She got much better than she would have received by any journalist or anchor on cable TV. Cavett lets her talk and that is great.
