Yep. That’s always been true for the Genesis games. It’s to play two ring sounds at the same time in the Genesis titles, but Sonic CD stripped a lot from its sound driver to fit into the Z80, which is why the ring sound cancels themselves out, while still doing the stereo switching. The sound driver being stripped down is also why the jump sound is different, because the original used PSG and the Sonic CD one only has FM

The good ending can be achieved after stardust speedway by getting the last time stone in metallic madness, also in generations eggman messed up the timelines, making the bad future and stardust speedway and crisis city appear, and sega just reused generations' assets for sonic 4 (the little planet looks fine when metal is going back to earth anyways)

Not gonna lie I actually prefer most of the US Bad Future themes. The big exceptions are Wacky Workbench because a factory that reaches critical mass > a factory in disrepair, and Palmtree Panic because the US version kinda drops the ball IMHO. Metallic Madness is kinda tied, both versions are amazing.

@@tapgames3465 The album version is amazing and uses many instruments missing from the in game version. The instruments progress, giving a sense of decay on par with Tidal Tempest and Quartz Quadrant. Unfortunately, the in game version is quite stripped back and barren, even meandering at times.

I see it as a dark depressing as hell kinda post apocalyptic world where you're the last human survivor as all life is gone, skies become red as blood, dark clouds raining non-stop and full of dead lifeless bodies of humans and mangled up carcasses of sea life and marine life as well, floating on the dirty toxic waters of death as the world reaches its peak of trying and failing to survive by the deadliest animals of all time and that's us...toxic careless greedy uncaring blissfully ignorant humans. Say what you will, but that's at least what I think it would feel like to me in a way whenever I hear the USA version of Tidal Tempest Zones' bad future theme.

But yeah, it does sound a bit like the earth is about to collapse and there are a lot of dead bodies and the water is toxic and the sky is red. But i still think it sounds a little bit like a haunted house. But i also agree with you.

That NA OST is not bad isolated, but its dont seams to fit in any Sonic game. Its lacks core melodies that should make them unique. The boss theme however... is like that "uncanny mr incredible" meme compared with the JP

it had it's moments, but especially compared to the jp soundtrack, it was forgettable and terrible. it also had no real melody for a lot of the tracks, making time-travelling from (for example) quartz quadrant present to the future really weird because it wasn't the leitmotif you heard in the present, if you can even call the random guitar riffs a leitmotif. another fundamental problem is that most of the tracks simply don't fit the setting; palmtree panic bad future, all of the good future themes, wacky workbench bad future, metallic madness present and the like. and the ones that are good still barely stand toe to toe with the jp version (i.e. stardust speedway present, stardust speedway bad future, quartz quadrant bad future and metallic madness bad future.)
