I finally understand Freya’s decision to cast the spell on Baldur after doing some research on Norse mythology. According to Dr. Google, there was a prophecy that Baldur would die. Everything he did in this game was purely for Atreus. He doesn’t give a shit about the giants at this point. If you read the novelization, pretty much every decision he makes comes back to Atreus. Even when he ultimately kills Baldur, it’s not because he wants to save Freya but it’s because he wants to spare Atreus losing another women he’d gotten attached to.

This is one of my favorite scenes in the whole game. I don't know why. I kind of get Logan vibes from it. Kratos is older, you can see he struggles a bit, he breathes heavily while running, but nonetheless, he keeps running like a fucking fright train, you know there is no stopping him. The music also gives an excellent vibe of desperation and urgency. His son is in danger. Baldur is not getting away so easily. Papa bear is coming for you.

Honestly, I sometimes feel like this is the most under-appreciated scene in the game. Mostly due to the fact that all the other scenes are so good people don't realize how amazing this really is. They're about to enter the gate to the realm of the giants when they're stopped by the Norse god Baldur. Kratos then proceeds to fight him and destroys the gate in the process. Kratos's son tries to help and when Kratos stops him from doing so he makes the rash impulse to shoot him with a lightning arrow. Baldur then stabs his son, jumps off the side of the tallest mountain in Midgard, and then Kratos jumps after him. Kratos then lands on an armored dragon which they were trying to get away on and Kratos fights Baldur in order to save his son. Through a tough battle, Kratos is shunted off the dragon but cuts the dragon's wing. He then uses his shield and slams against the pathway to the temple, grinding to a halt. He runs towards the realm travel room where they headed and finds Baldur using it to send them all to Asgard where the gods all live. In a split second decision Kratos fights off Baldur and changes the destination to Hel, the realm of the damned, and gets shunted off with his son and Baldur passed the bridge of the damned and punches Baldur away mid-air. After being separated Kratos and his son now are stuck in, as Mimir put it, the worst place in Hel. Could you just watch the video above instead of reading this? Of course, but sometimes reading over what just happened really gives you an idea of just how epic a moment like this was.
