Shitting Off The Dock Of The Bay (rare 1960's soul vinyl)

On what should have been one of the great soul songs of the 1960s, ’Shitting Off The Dock Of The Bay’ found Bobo Bojangles in an uncharacteristically reflective mood. It was inspired by a particularly problematic digestive episode that had left Bobo dangling himself off a local pier for many hours while relieving himself of the unpleasant after-effects of a badly prepared meal. For bizarre legal reasons that remain unclear the record only received a limited release on a small record label in Gdańsk. It was widely rumoured that several years later parts of the song were stolen for use in a much more famous record, though lawyers for the record label in question have consistently denied this.

It’s a shame dear old Bobo is only remembered for his music. He was a kind and generous soul and a brilliant magician. My dad met him in ‘63 as an invigilator during a closed-audience magic show where Bobo proved his claim beyond any scientific doubt that he could peel an orange with his anus. A true one-off and had talents far beyond the music scene.

Bobo was not only an expert invigilator, he was also a practiced invaginator, and many's the time a comely young lass would awaken from a 'Cosby Coma' (also known as a "Huxtable Hump") to find herself pregnant and sold into indentureshit These are true things seen by One who Knows

Closely followed by "That's how strong my shit is" and "Pain in my Arse" had Bobo running up the charts that summer. The amount he produced was amazing before xmas he smashed in "These shits of mine" and "A brown Xmas". 1961 sprung for Bobo but his shit was too hard to handle and hits followed such as "Stand by my Shit" and "A shit is gonna come" Album time saw a collab. with Tina Turner "Respect my shit"

Bobo played in our waterfront community in New Jersey back in 64. He had a 36' cabin cruiser he used like a tour bus for playing venues around the intercoastal. He docked his boat on the pier by Johnny Luger's Blues and Crab Shack. For 6 months after Bobo played we were catching ells like crazy by Luger's. I'm talking I alone caught 25 eels in one hour. Some magic time release chum calling them slimy eels in far away as Iceland. Iceland for real; one of the ells had a bread tie from Iceland in it's belly. Bobo's scrunch carried a punch, depending on what he had for lunch.
