@@seanbud Of course, I think it's important to discuss this openly if we are to help others. Growing up I was never much of a hip hop person, I would only ever listen to rock n roll and metal. I saw it as "not real music" for whatever dumb reason I was told. Be it because it "had no instruments" or simply because it was made by black people. At the time, rap and hip hop to me was nothing but "guns and hoes." The bling era at the time, along with my own deeply held racist beliefs, left me with an awfully vitriolic view of black culture. In comes DOOM's 'MM FOOD.' Hearing this dude make the dictionary his submissive little play thing was astounding to me. Those beats were like nothing I had ever heard from my narrow and clouded view of hip hop. Many of my awful beliefs remained for the years after I had discovered DOOM, but he was a stepping stone for what would come later in my life. Years passed, my love for DOOM remained (it was the only hip hop I would play,) and I had developed a love for history in High School. In that new love for history I slowly began learning about black people's role in rock n roll's creation. One Wikipedia page led to another and I came across the 'Nuwaubian Nation' which DOOM was heavily influenced by. I became fascinated with the struggle of black people and the years of literature and art apart of the movement for black liberation. As time went by I only increased that curiosity more and more. I began relating it with my own struggle and lost identity as a Mexican-American. Slowly I began diging deeper into not only DOOM's lyrics, but hip hop as a whole. Artist like JPEGMAFIA showed me the deeper underbelly to my past insecurities while speaking to my frustrations as apart of the working class. And that's the story of how I went from a fascist to a socialist. All thanks to DOOM, a bumper that played one night when I was a kid, and night terrors that kept me up until 3am :) Sorry for the wall of text and thanks for reading this all if you did. Thank you Villain.

ALSO mad mad mad love for talking about Open Mike. I’ve met that dude a few times over the last ten years and he’s funny af, down to earth, c puts out slept upon gem after slept upon gem, really on a whole other wavelength (all his homies too, Billy Woods, Elucid, Milo/Ferreira). They should really rename themselves The Slept Upon Clique or something cause there’s like 20 classics between their lil niche of friends in the underground that just don’t get ANY mentions EVER by the culture (DEHH only ones I’ve seen talk OPE up). A Eulogy for MF DOOM aka Daniel Dumile ...a TITAN in Hip Hop...(AKA Metalfingers, Victor Vaugh, Metalface, King Dumile & the Maddest of Villains) Where to start... Rest In Peace, Power, and Paradise DOOM - you were and are the FATHER of multisyllable rhyming on GOD... Nothing like starting the new year crying FUCK - this man is a legend, he's also a father, son and husband. I'm gonna post one of his many amazing songs/collabs every day this week, but I want to start with my all time favorite, the song i just put on after reading the news...the melancholy, bare bones 'Accordion' from My ALL Time #1 Album Madvillainy - 2 fitting lines that start each of his verses: "Living off borrowed time the clock ticks faster" (he had long term medical issues) and then after the break: "When he at the mic you don't go next..." - NO truer words DOOM... As far as details, he was 49, if you know the name you know he's one of the HEAVYWEIGHTS of Hip Hop - and if you don't know the name, you shouldve (and you probably know the Mask) - they were one in the same, a cartoon villain come to life - apparently he passed, ironically for a man in a mask, on Halloween but its just been announced so 2020 takes the blame for that, couldnt let me out without one last gut punch FUCK....shit is surreal, nothing like losing one of your heroe's to start the New Year FUCK! Perfect quote to leave at the end of a perfect career: "On Doomsday! Ever since the womb 'til I'm back where my brother went That's what my tomb will say Right above my government, Dumille Either unmarked or engraved, hey, who's to say?" Engraved in gold MF DOOM, Engraved in MFing GOLD!

Anderson .Paak shouted out Doom on his latest record Ventura, in the song "Chosen One." Don't know if that counts, though, because they're technically labelmates (the Nx Worries album and the latest Madvillain single "Avalanche" were both released in 2016 on Stones Throw).

One detail in terms of Lupe Fiasco that this misses is in his song "Peace of Paper/Cup of Jayzus" he has a verse about who is the greatest rapper, he says "Look who's here the greatest rapper's arrived At the birthday party the greatest rapper surprised Bumped into DOOM, the greatest rappers collide" Worth mentioning though DOOM is not the only name he brings up similarly in this verse, such as AZ and Loaded Lux

I still can't believe it, I started to listen seriously to DOOM's music last year after knowing him for ages and it just clicked with me, I was really waiting for more projects. It still feels surreal that he was gone for such a long time and nobody knew but I completely understand and respect the decision taken by the family. This video just simply shows how influential and phenomenal DOOM really is. Dumile may be gone, but DOOM's music and legacy will stay here forever to inspire anybody who is lucky enough to listen to him. Oh and something unrelated, at the start of the video there is some sort of lullaby tune or something like that and I know for certain that I listened to it before somewhere, where is it from?

@@keenanmolden2655 doom is the posterboy for underground hip hop, but like tech n9ne, hes one of the most known indie/underground rappers in the world. there are so many underground rappers that aren't near the level of recognition as doom, so yeah, people need to stop pretending like being underground or indie means hidden or unknown. it just means they are independent. without backing from a major pretty much

Two big reason are 1. Drake is a major culture vulture, and people have known this for a long time now 2. Gatekeeping is hella strong with underground rap fans Put them together and boom nobody in the world is gonna believe Drake lol
