Shivers In The Dark: On The Road with Dire Straits

In this exclusive show to mark the release of the new box set Dire Straits Live 1978-1992 founding members Mark Knopfler and John Illsley talk about the band's adventures on the road, from modest beginnings to globe-straddling arena and stadium tours. The two friends describe how Dire Straits went from pub and club gigs, where they had to load in their own equipment from the street, to becoming one of the biggest bands ever to come out of the UK.
Along the way, Mark explains why he started wearing his famous headband and the effect on audiences of songs like ’Sultans of Swing,' ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Brothers In Arms’. John describes early days of doubling as the band’s manager, and how their name initially made agents think they were a punk outfit, before they both discuss why the Straits split up at the height of their powers, and the legacy of their unique songbook.
