The great madame is the only one that couldn't see through her lies. Everyone else knew she was no good but she had the protection of the great madame so it was hard to expose her. Every time she screwed up it was the great madame that step in. It's the very reason why she was so bold. Lingyi/Shiyi knew they needed irrefutable proof that the great madame couldn't deny. She just told them that she would never believe that Liangfeng deliberately made Zhun sick because she watched her grow up. She even prevented the physician for elaborating on the very cause of his illness and whether or not it was intentional.

@@shontelagrone8713 Great Madame was too obsessed with her being a "legitimate daughter" and was biased against Shiyi because of it. Every mistake she made she still was lenient to Liangang and harshly punished or criticized Shiyi. It took her too long to really see Shiyi's honest character and even though she saw the light I still didn't like her for how long she took

@@JaxB562 I didn't like her either. Her epiphany came way too late. It wasn't until Shiyi was willing to die for the Xu family did she have a change of heart. It's her archaic beliefs that nearly destroyed her family. She was a horrible matriarch and an even worse mother in law. She told everyone that she would never believe a bad word about Lianfang... she forced Lingyi/Shiyi to go to desperate measures in order to expose Lianfang's wrongdoings in a way that even the great Madam couldn't refute. She did so much damage to her her family and never once did she give Shiyi a formal apology for all the evil things she did to her.
