My favorite skate ever! Breathtaking! Best Ina Bauer ever in my opinion! When the technical elements excel, and meet with the the most beautiful artistic elements.... it creates the ultimate in figure skating! Well deserved Olympic Gold!
I remember watching this live broadcast in 2006, and although I was not a figure skating fan then, but I remembered Shizuka. Now it’s 2024 and I really like watching figure skating, and I’m reviewing this performance and understand that Shizuka is an outstanding figure skater, she is magnificent, graceful, exquisite, even now this program looks exciting, she swims on the ice like a swan! I'm going back and re-watching this for the umpteenth time - Shizuka Arakawa is really amazing! 💖

The spiral sequence was so unrushed and gorgeous. Also that final spin position.... amazing.
I watched this when it aired and I just knew she had nailed gold. It was a lovely skate.

I remember watching this live and it has stuck with me ever since. Arakawa is an artist who demonstrated the height of beauty humanity is capable of. My favorite part begins at 4:00, after the jumps, with pressure fading. She opens up and skates with highest joy, closest to the soul. Her arm flourishes with outstretched hands imply sharing joy and exalting love and beauty. I've watched this performance many times, and always tear up and marvel at how amazing it is. Thank goodness for this video without the inane NBC commentary.

beautiful and unforgettable performance by Shizuka Arakawa.
To this day, this is one of the most mesmerizingly beautiful programs of all time. People always talk about her Ina Bauer (as they should) but it's that unassisted Y-Spiral that always takes my breath away. Shizuka's gold medal was well deserved. She must smile every time she hears Turandot.

I don't know why but this 4 and a half minutes makes me cry every time. The combination of Puccini's intoxicating and inspired music combined with the artistry of a person so in the moment just opens something in my heart that I can't describe. Nowhere else have I seen a spiral sequence so generous and so beautiful; other athlete's spirals always leave me wanting more, but Arakawa gives fully here knowing it's what we want. The Ina Bauer is another equally satisfying gift that, despite lacking the heavenly length of the spiral, presents a moment of grace so sublime that we long to inhabit it forever. I am so grateful for this high quality video without commentary. It makes me wish we had the same for Sale and Pelletier's performance in the 2002 Salt Lake City games. Another perfect, in the moment and joyful performance, this time sadly overshadowed by controversy.

With you all the way. Just watched again, tissue in hand. That spiral will NEVER be matched. We sorely need to adjust scoring to give weight to spirals, spins, footwork, speed and lines to provide balance and return the sport to its glory,

Technical wise of course this is not the strongest program But dare I say no one beat that Ina Bauer to this day. Plus, her form and line were just gorgeous, the grace and smoothness when her arms flail like that, gosh, Cool Beauty indeed

she did what was needed to win. in 2004 she did two triple-triple combinations so she had the ability to do a harder routine if she had to

@@Plaspos Yeah I know. She doubled lots of jumps for the sake of clean program.

Yes, her Ina Bauer and Y Spiral also the last spin, doughnut spin of hers are so amazing. Even when her jumps is not like what textbook jumps, it is still a performance that is very enjoyable. Like I'd still watch her performance again and again💕
