the entry level or the baby AMG is the best way to describe the 43 range cars. I think it's a smart move from mercedes alot more sporty than your average Mercedes yet not as mad as the bigger brothers!

To me this is the "ultimate compromise." You get a fantastic interior, better tech than the C-class (I hate the C-class infotainment screen), the functionality of what is basically a full-size saloon car, added performance over the standard E-class, and a price point well below the E63S (for those of us who can't afford a $120k car). It makes sense why Mercedes did it. Nice video.

And don't forget the fact that this is an incredibly reliable motor. The m276 is near bulletproof. Yes, this is a derivative of the m276 and there is added complexity and strain on the engine from the twin turbo setup, but this is still much more easy to maintain than the hand built V8 versions.

Picked up my E43 a couple of weeks ago and I really like it. Was choosing between E43 and C63. And the E-class is a much nicer daily driver than the C. Spoke to some offical persons from AMG and Mercedes at an event and they said that of course it is a REAL AMG. It get the marketing and so on. But they decide what is what. Remember the C32 and C36? Not V8's. The 43 engines might not be the one man, one engine, but does it really matter? It has been tuned and tinkered with by AMG, and that is what they were all about from the beginning.

This is an AMG like it or not. Here's why, and some of you are just going to have to accept it. 1st off I'm an AMG purist, this car is not for me. HOWEVER, for people to say that it's not an AMG is ignorant. If AMG wasn't involved with the engineering process AT ALL and it was just simply a "trim line" then I would say yes, it's not a real AMG. But the fact is that AMG is heavily involved in the manufacturing of this car. From the engine tweakings to the software & hardware, suspension, to the actual trimmings. Is the engine handmade? NO. But the E63 does have the "hand built" engine so if that's what you want then GET THAT ONE! The ones who really are into a hand built engine will get the 63 and the purists will know that it's a hand built engine AMG. But to say the E43 isn't an AMG AT ALL is simply Incorrect. So stop crying, accept it and move on..

GermanCitizen the E400 isn't on this scale... AMG took the engine out of the 400 and put their own turbos and internals on it and tuned it as a former tuning firm should. It's absolutely an AMG

It's a brilliant segment. Aimed at guys like me that want a strong sporty personality, but heavier emphasis on luxury. The regular version is too understated, and the 63 just flat out obnoxious. We just don't need allllll that. I am deciding between this and tge BMW M550i. Very tough call.

There's a reason why this is the #1 car in Car and Driver's Mid Size Luxury rankings. Oh and #2 is the reguar E Class. Mercedes is defecating all over the competition and definitely better than BMW or Audi with those cheap looking "pop up" displays.

The same engine, with slightly less power (367 PS) is also being used in the C 43 and SLK 43 (where it is called AMG) and the SL 400 (where it is the entry model). It is also worth noting that Mercedes doesn't offer an AMG Driver's Package (that would raise the 250 km/h top seed somewhat) for any 43 AMG model.

Hand built engine or not......zero to 100 in 4.3 seconds is great from a vehicle that you can genuinely use everyday and take it on the race track once or twice in it's life time. All AMGs are limited to 250kph anyways so really this is the best all rounder. You can take on any luxury vehicle in terms of luxury and comfort yet you can take on any super car robot to robot and on the bends. Great one and I'm definitely getting this one over the 63 E or C.

The quick glance at the GPS screen at 3:48 shows N Bush Hwy, Mesa, Arizona. Looking at Google Maps he is in the E Water Users Camp Circle parking lot north east of Mesa. This was probably filmed when Tim went to test drive the AMG GT C roadster in nearby Sedona, Arizona back in March. Other than the GPS screen and the landscape, the New York manufacture's license plates shows this is a US spec car, not a European one.

Nice video as always, if i can give you a tip: you could increase the audio quality a lot by getting a little microphone on your shirt. You will hear less wind, and if you move the camera you won't hear the audio going from your left to your right ear etc.. Just a little thing i wanted to say ;) keep it up!

The way you've driven the E 43 AMG in this video I don't understand why someone would choose this car over a E 220 diesel. I've only noticed a downside to the E 43 AMG compared to the E 220 d - I see that the comfort of the suspension is compromised in the AMG version. My E 220 d smooths out the road excellently and it only has the normal springs suspension. Of course the E 43 AMG sounds better and it's a lot faster, but that's about it. I'm not sure it's worth the big difference in the asking price.

I suppose the whole thing is quite redundant though as the mic on your (and others) camera's wont do it any justice but just an option anyway.

The world is changing, so is the AMG or Mercedes.What's the problem? I own one and i must say i did drove some other full fat AMG models. The differences are not so big but we must not forget that this car could be an interpretation of AMG for a every day car, confy but sporty when u need it. Is not about the money either. I personally bought this car because of the compromise not because I wanted a 63 and could' afford it. So what if it isn't a v8, also the v8's have changed. Nowadays are 4.0 and not 6.2 and who know tomorrow how it will be like? The hypercar that AMG is prepearing is 1.6 litre hybrid? It is going tobe an AMG or not. Un conclusion i must say thet AMG is changing it offers much more options for potencial buyers...the game is not about being selfish:))

This car is really the replacement for the old 5.5L E550 V8, just a lot more expensive when equally optioned. V6 TT is the reality of today's MPG requirements. Can't find any data on how much the AMG engineers had an influence on its exhaust and suspension so how much of it is AMG is still up for debate!

It says AMG, it is an AMG. It's not what you are used to, it's something new, more affordable, less harming to the environment, less gotty, more practical and best of all it looks like a C63. Cars change with the times, don't stay rigid expecting what you used to. Remember the pushback when the Cayenne came out? Well, mercedes is coming out with a TRUCK and soon an AMG texas style truck. Go with it... the baby amgs are awesome! I have one and I love the shit out of it.

AMG or not, I compared this to C63 (drove both), preferred the engine on the C63 and the handling of the C43. Power from both is very good and both are a ton of fun. I bought the C43 cabriolet and on LA mountain roads it's lots of fun and super comfortable. One man, one engine sounds great? But what does it actually MEAN in terms of practical driving? NOTHING. It's just another marketing ploy. AMG is just a badge that Merc applies to certain higher performance cars. No one's going to be unhappy with either if these cars and my C43 is a beautiful car. An AMG GTR is in my future in a couple of years.
