Respraying My AMG GT Black Series! This is Why...

Time to put the plans into action, and get the process started to respray my AMG GT Black Series! Solarbeam yellow was always the plan, and it wasn't an option to choose it from factory, so it's up to Chartwell just like with the SLS Black Series, for a full permanent transformation. I might be mad, but can't wait for the result!

Maybe a super expensive idea but..... What about coloring the carbon fiber?? Like... For example.. The Triple F's collection... They have a speedtail that is exposed carbon that has a really nice blue... I mean... Yellow carbon fiber may not look great in some cases, but I think in the future... I'd love to see you do something with colored carbon...

The GT Black Series looks amazing in that Grey Magno, I personally wouldn’t change it but you were right to change the SLS which looks fantastic, so maybe it will look ok and w all know you like your bright colours 👍

To each their own, but I would never buy a car that I didn’t feel comfortable with using the hell out of. I understand if people like to buy a car, and keep it pristine and rarely drive it, but you only live once. I love to drive though.

The front fenders are carbon if I’m not mistaken, they can sand down the louvers to expose the carbon and lacquer it once they paint it yellow and you’d have exposed carbon louvers on the fenders which would also make it more unique.

Yeah, if I had to pay all that extra cash to have it repainted I would't want to have it exactly like the other factory models. I would allso black out ALL the exterior chrome details, that would look so mutch better.

Seeing the SLS and the GT side-by-side, I realize how much more beautiful the SLS truly is. It seems so much wider, so much more planted, stuck to the road. There's a definite grace to it that is completely missing with the GT.

GT is more of a brute/bruiser which is based on agression and road presence, whereas the SLS has more poise, style and elegance. One is as track focused as any Merc is going to be, the other is just the ultimate road car imo.

The colour certainly helps, but yeh the SLS is beautiful. Definitely more elegant than the GT but I just read comment above & he's right, it's not pretty but suits the cars purpose. Can't wait to see it in yellow, wouldn't be my choice but Tim's proved me wrong before If I had to choose, I'd have the SLS (I wish)

I think you’ve got it spot on with the colour change. I’d leave the V8 badge red as I think it’ll work well against the solar beam yellow. Can’t wait to see the GT500 lined up in the Shmuseum

Hey man, i’m kinda new to cars and modding and my interest keeps building. Out of interest, would you have any idea how much it would cost to do a full respray on such a high end car like the GT black series? The maintenance costs i’ve heard so far seem to more expensive than my actual car. I’m sure i heard him say a service for the Ford GT was somewhere in the region of £4,000. My head nearly fell off when he was charged £8,000 for the breaks being fixed. (I understand Ford later contacted him and explained he’d been charged double by accident and corrected the error - big honesty points to that specific dealership)

@@Raggandrist a respray in such a way the amg gt Bs will be going to get (I know shmee‘s not cheaping out and wants full perfection which I would do as well) will probably cost around 30-40.000€. I don’t know it but the work that will go into that is mind boggling. You need to sand down the original paint on every panel in every ever so slightly corner and put in hundreds of man hours into it to get a factory (or even better than factory) finish. I think shmee said that fhe respray of his G class in topaz skin cost around 12.000£ and for that it’s not necessary to sand down the panels. Also the g Wagon has much simpler bodywork. Maybe shmee will reply here and enlightens us with correct information!😎👍🏼

@@Raggandrist I’ve no idea how much that respect would cost, my guess would be about £10/20k. With high performance cars you have upgraded parts, so whilst the brakes are expensive it’s because they are a lot better than normal brakes. Also with limited edition cars the parts are limited which increases the costs of the parts. And the biggest thing is if someone has the money to buy one of these cars they can definitely afford to pay a few more quid with servicing and repairs

Great plan. The only suggestion I have is to only pain the rear portion of the boot lid along the ducktail hardline. This way your avoid paining the rails which might end up having issues over the long term ownership you plan.

I like the GT Black series as is, if it were mine I'd probably keep it that way. That being said, I think it would look incredible, better even, in a bright yellow. Can't wait to see it.

Hats off for building and painting it as you wanted. Slightly surprised that Mercedes couldn’t do it through their personalisation programme. So good that it will be used. The premium car market is too affected by people who are allowed to buy cars, don’t use them and then sell for profit. Same with watches. Good to see you using the car. Agree on tires. Keep the R compound tires for the track and put some 4S tires on for the road. They will perform well and provide longer life.

Oh he is a collector but he's just not the obsessive type of car collector who has to have everything in factory condition forever, and accepts that cars have to be driven and minor damages are part of the journey. He still cherishes his cars though and it is a collection but PPF on every car regardless of age is basically a must. I've considered even going down the route of PPF hot hatches and stuff I can eventually afford or maybe even a topaz skin / peelable paint just so I don''t have to worry as much about the original paint but kept my first car's paint in factory like condition for 3-4 years until things went south. I'd love to own classic cars and be able to drive and preserve their current condition for a while but not having a garage kinda sucks in UK weather

He also said he wants to get the C63 BS logo back to chrome and I would also say that chrome on the logo looks better as the blacked out looks pretty tacky and cheap. It’s just one of those mods everyone that wants to look cool does

If the brakes are squeaking, you have to go fast (around 120mph) and start braking somewhat hard. After doing that a few times it should fix the squeaking issue.

Satin gray is literally my fav colour,it's the colour i wanna wrap my best car in,solarbeam is cool but as a fan of grays in general id keep it like that. Definitely want to see how it turns out though,it will look cool with the carbon accents

The boot should be yellow as well!! 👍 Also the solar beam yellow is an amazing colour! I used to have a triumph speed triple in that yellow that triumph does and it was the best colour I ever had on any vehicle. I used to call it solar beam yellow even though it wasn' t🤪

Re tyres - I’d say go for the 4S, autumn is a month away and it’ll take time to have the respray and exhaust taken care of - if there’s a need the 2Rs can go back on if they’re not in shreds. Then go all out with stickier rubber next spring/summer season.

With the lack of sunshine in the UK a lighter shade would do, I would personally go with all mat black wheel as a contrast, especially since you have carbon brakes that will leave dust constantly.
