BYE BYE to My Porsche GT3!

What is going on?! My Porsche 911 GT3 is leaving the garage so join me for the last drive to reminisce on the ownership experience and explain why I'm saying bye bye to the car so soon.
I took delivery of my Porsche 911 GT3 from Porsche Zentrum Amsterdam in March of this year after having followed the whole process through from order to the build in Stuttgart and even having the opportunity to see it at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur for the custom parts to be installed. With a very unique spec in PTS Gelbgrun, I won't forget what it's been like along the way, especially seeing it at the dealership for the first time by air from a helicopter!
However, I've not hidden the fact that it doesn't quite grab my heart strings as much as some of the other cars I'm lucky enough to own. Back in April I shot a twin-test between the GT3 and my AMG GT R and at that point it was already clear which car is more 'me'. Then 2 months ago when I took it for an update video to celebrate approaching 10,000km already I think a lot of you almost could tell before I could that the inevitable might come. This is not to say that the car isn't superb, the sound when the engine screams away and the precision of the handling in environments like the Nurburgring; but sometimes things are more complicated than that.
So, why is it leaving even though it's the latest of the high performance cars I have taken delivery of? A few reasons really but to be brutally honest, the incoming Ford GT requires me to clear up some funds from my garage and that meant something had to leave, to be simple about it I couldn't face letting the GT R, or my McLaren 675LT Spider or Aston Martin Vantage GT8 go.
Please don't accuse me of flipping; I've lost more money on this GT3 than any car I've previously owned in my life - including my FF or Vanquish! That's a small price to pay for the happy miles with it and memories that I've accumulated though.

This is the car I would keep till my last breath. Stick and 3rd pedal, 9000RPM, 4.0 flat six, RWD and the nicest wing on an 911 since the 964 turbo, with some wicked scoops in front of it. The stick of the GT3 can handle powershifting, just imagine the feeling doing so at the freaking redline as you speed up till the corner.... Then one of the most exciting heel-and-toe experience in any car in recent years... Best ass, best engine, best stick, in its class (a class of its own, as mr chris harris would say) and I couldn't possibly ask to be in anything else on the road...

Tbh, I think not many people will agree. He didn't have the best spec, and the 991.2 will be replaced very soon.

iaintdonknow he has a great spec, PTS is very rare on 991.2 GT3s- additionally because the 991.2 is about to be replaced is the biggest reason to keep it. The new GT3 will be Turbo Charged and it just wont be the same as a 4.0L Flat Six that revs to 9,000.

@@gt1r sure, I don't see how his car is limited. PTS in Germany is pretty normal, and this color looks a lot like the one on the GT3RS. Also 10k miles didn't make the car worth more. Not every car has to be an investment.

+Elliot, on that basis it would be much better now to trade backwards and get a 997. The 991 will be out of date compared to the 992, and the 997 was arguably more of a raw driving experience.

Im pretty sure you will regret that move, Tim. This is the last N/A high rev GT3, rumours say that next one will be turbocharged. On the other hand Mercedes GT-R is nothing super special and that is the one which should go :)

The original sills that say GT3 on them are "thrown out" at PEM. They don't give them to the customer, and they don't reuse them since they get some minor scratches when removed...

Nothing wrong with this decision, didn't fall in love with it, and need the funds released for the GT. I'd still question the volume of cars in your fleet, but understand it is in some ways a necessary part of operating this channel, but I'd say the LT can make room for the GT (or something else) too. Not personally a fan of the AMG GTR, but for what you need, it is certainly perfect.

you have to own these cars tp understand, being a tuned amg gts edition 1 owner and ex porsche gt owner, the amg is way more tail happy, fun, etc... and the GTR is every bit as fast or faster than the GT3 on the track

Seeing the Porsche leave the garage is sad but the future is also quite exciting. I completely understand this move, thinking back to some of your comments over the past few months and what I've heard from other members of the KZbin community who own them, the GT-3 is more track focused and all around better for the track compared to the AMG GT-R. The GT-R is a daily driver like you've said, but it's also quite track focused itself, just maybe not to the degree the Porsche is. A major plus is that the GT-R is the GT car it is, it's something the Porsche lacks when compared to the AMG GT-R and would be the reason I would choose the GT-R over the GT3.

Shmee Thank you for your honesty in reviewing your cars. After watching several of your videos, I decided to get the AMG GTR instead of the Porsche GT3. Two months later and 2K miles in - I have NEVER been happier. The GTR is everything I hoped for - a smooth luxurious GT for around town driving. What has really surprised me is just how good it is on the track as well. I've been smoking GT3 and other similar type of cars. Maybe it's the Pilot Cup 2 tires or Ceramic breaks but I'm in heaven. Please keep us in the loop if a Black version is in card - I may have to go full out and get one! Thanks again for being honest

You should have bought the turbo s as its a much easier dailey driver. I know a couple people who bought GT3s and didnt have them long. Too track specific. I m in my 18 Turbo S constantly and its such an easy ride for frequent trips and goes like a bat outta hell. Your GT3 is absolutely gorgeous. Love the color and the high revs but i understand your decision.

Well, I’m really surprised. You test drove the GT3 with PDK and with a manual. You spec’d it carefully and knew what the seats were like. You knew exactly what you were getting into and yet almost as soon as you got it, you didn’t like it! You know Tim, you didn't really OWE us a full explanation. But just as always, you're very open and truthful with us. As a person that subscribes to many channels, it's refreshing to see such honesty and transparency. In this day and age people focus more on "clout" than anything. You've never done KZbin for fame. And although you have more, financially, than your average subscriber, you never try to appear as if money is not an object. In the past people have questioned if you were spending your father's money. Shmee I am not surprise that you are selling the GT3. I watch all the videos you made with this car and your heart was not into it. I believe you didn’t build it right. Thinking the car was going to be use for the track only is a big mistake. You should have taken a manual with less track focus specification. Oh well, it is what it is. Hi Tim. Sorry to see the GT3 go. Honestly had you bought the manual GT3 you would have been hooked. I never got attached to my 991.1 PDK GT3 and had no trouble letting it go, and it never was my favorite and not like my emotional attachment to my GT4 or my Spyder. I too loved that fact it was very precise and a track tool, but let’s face it, I only took it to the track 4 times a year...However once I got my manual 991.2 GT3, it instantly became my absolute favorite and I ended up getting rid of my GT4 last month as the GT3 replaced the emotional attachment I had for the GT4, and I can’t get enough from driving it. My daily has been like yourself the AMG GTR, and I loved that car but ever since the GT3 arrived i lost interest in the AMG GTR and the GT3 with manual transmission became my daily. Really hard to imagine that the manual transmission makes all that difference but it really does which is the reason your GT4 grabbed your heart and your GT3 didn’t. I also replaced the Cup 2 tires with Michelin Pilot 4S which made it more useful as a daily and took away the harshness and nervousness at high speeds and without sacrificing much of dry grip or fun on backroads but allowing me to drive it during rain storms and bad weather, all year around. Can’t imagine life without my manual GT3!
