What can you say…live a-ha are just on a different level. Morten’s voice if he’s on form sends shivers down the spine in a live performance..as you can hear!

"Memories they keep coming through...the good ones hurt more than the bad ones do" - so true and so relatable...and especially after a break up, like I'm just going through these days. The first time I heard that line it just resonated so deeply within me and may be the reason why I fell in love with the song to begin with.

Yes, such a well-crafted and painfully true line. And best of luck with that situation, Jesper---it's never easy, as I know all too well. Cheers, brother.

I love this songs no matter live or studio. As Pedro said, it's a great opening for the live show. Towards the end i can hear (I think) Mags try and hit the high note and miss. Then just to show off, Morten ends the song with a pitch perfect high... it's like glass sound. Clear and smooth.

That voice at the end...❤️ I love this song and this version sounds amazing on CD or record but it was perfect when you heard it live, in the hall, from the front row.. Watching Morten sing is something very special and I am so happy to have experienced this vocal miracle and this unique band live many times

Only Morten surpasses the studio versions.

Even the train is excited🤣 👌 I also got the same feeling first time hearing the live version, better version live🎶 You're going to love the live version on the live album Ending On A High Note and MTV unplugged. Superb 👌

I've always enjoyed this one. I took the line about memories, that you mentioned, to be relevant to the storyteller because he says 'I'll soon be gone now'.

This was one of the songs that made my chin drop when I rediscovered a-ha. I couldn't understand how I could have managed to lose such wonderful music - and from our own Norwegian backyard. I still don't get it. If there wasn't a deeper meaning for me to have the experience of discovering a-ha when I needed it most. Fantastic song, both the studio version and live. I actually love everything about this amazing band.

Haha, let's gooo! I'm much newer to the a-ha game, but my goodness, have I come to love this band.

@@mattsnider2667 I recently read a review of the movie "a-ha the movie" in an American magazine. They referred to the band as a "one hit wonder", but at the same time it seemed that they were trying to excuse their use of the term - which they believed was justified. Perhaps I shouldn't blame the Americans when I myself have missed so much - but that they were NOT a one hit wonder, at least I knew that. The music industry has too much power. They decide what music people will be exposed to - and if an artist doesn't jump when they say jump, then that artist has no chance in the parts of the industry that they control.
@shelld1261 Жыл бұрын
@@ahkkariq7406 oooh…I would have cringed at that remark. Drives me nuts, but yes, we Americans were clueless, as you said. I still think if they would have been able to get to us teenagers with Scoundrel Days (especially Manhattan Skyline and I've been losing you), and the East of the Sun Album (Especially Sycamore Trees) they would have had many fans here. I could see the metal heads wearing a shirt with the East of the Sun album cover easily. Ah well, yep, as you said, damn music industry.😡

Hi Matt i hope you had an excellent Christmas Day . Forever Not Yours is one of the few faves I have from the lifelines album. It’s amazing played live or in a studio. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it live. Take care 😘❤️🇳🇴❤️🏴🇺🇸⛄️🎄🎁🥶

It's funny that you immediately feel the live version resonating more than the studio version. I guess now you understand why a lot of fans here have always said they prefer the live versions of some songs and insisted that you checked them out. 😉 Sometimes I think that with all the tensions and disagreements in the studio they ended up with studio versions that weren't exactly what they wanted (none of them), and each of them tended to take more control over their own songs in studio, while on tour they had to collaborate more and do their magic as a-ha, working things out together. But I have to say Morten's voice at the beginning makes me cringe a little, it's not that it's "bad" but it's become so "thin", maybe too high-pitched, I don't know. And this is even more evident when you have recently reacted to some NRK 1991 tracks, the difference in his voice is huge. Of course, this is a 2000s track, his voice had changed and he sings differently in the 2000s, but even so the difference is almost unbelievable to my ears. I think it gets better after a while and I have this idea that Morten usually sings better after the first few songs, like he needs to warm up a bit before he is more confortable with his voice. 🙂 Still, I like his 90s voice better than in any other era.
@shelld1261 Жыл бұрын
Yep, I love the man’s 90’s voice too. It’s that really deep voice that gets me.❤ Not that it’s horrible other times, but again, I am with you, not the same. I used to believe they stuck with the high pitched voice because it was more popular with fans and maybe easier to write for. Then someone in comments somewhere said that maybe it's actually harder to sing in a deeper voice as you get older over a higher one. I am clueless with this stuff, so maybe that is true. If it is true and the reason Morten stopped using it so much, that truly sucks to me. I feel there should be some big memorial service for that hot deep, gravelly, scratchy voice then. This might look like a joke in text, but I am being completely honest here. 💐😭🤧 I do love the live versions because of the jamming they do. I guess I am not a concert person for I feel like telling the people singing along or screaming to be quiet. I paid to head A-ha, not the audience 😂😂😂

@@shelld1261 I still think his lower register sounds better than the higher these days. It is thinner" when he goes higher. But I will need to watch some of the recent videos with more attention to be sure, right now I can't really remember songs where he goes lower. Maybe the "All right, hold them tight now" on TLD? 🤔 And on True North I love his lower tones. And many of the high ones too. 😁

Que grande canção! E as lindas e inovadoras aberturas dos shows. Sugestão: "Living a Boys" com a introdução de E. Grieg e "The Bandstand ". Ambas ao vivo.
