Wow. Thanks for linking me to this one too, Matt. I didn't realize anyone had reacted to this song. You got pretty stankface on those emotional breaks of the song. I know how you feel. I hope you will continue to explore a-ha. Some suggestions are The Soft Rains of April, Celice, A Thin Blue Line and True North.

The jam session at the end of "This Alone Is Love" might give you a little bit of an idea of what to expect from "East of the Sun, West of the Moon." Hand Solo was maybe maybe alluding to that when he mentioned "Early Morning." "This Alone is Love" is a great song and believe it or not still not the song I feel is the best song on "Stay On These Roads." I do think the line "And all of us who are traveling by trapdoors, our souls are a myriad of wars and I'm losing every one" is simultaneously visual and philosophically abstract. On one hand you might think of sneaking unseen through secret passages, but you can also imagine the floor that you once thought stable opening up below you and dropping you into a pit.

What a fantastic lyricist.And i always loved that bit where M goes 'Oh Babee ...what can we dooo", '..ooo hooo'?A 'desperate' stunner

Why do i get the-possibly deceptive- feeling that 'Early Morning'(which i got hooked on from first listen) was a blending of OMD/early DM/ and some Kraftwerk skillfully 'redone' in an 1990 rock album?

I think the boys decided that there isn't enough good music on the radio at 3AM, so they made the perfect night time song.
@mattsnider26672 жыл бұрын
Haha, indeed, the good music at 3 a.m. is at techno parties! But yes, late-night vibes for sure.
@handsolo12092 жыл бұрын
@@mattsnider2667 I used to be a night owl, and when I was doing stuff at 3AM, it was stuff like this (and a later a-ha song called Early Morning) which just hit the sweet spot. Not engaging enough like Manhattan Skyline to make you focus on the song and lose focus on what you were doing, but good enough to not be boring garbage that gets on your nerves.
@mattsnider26672 жыл бұрын
@@handsolo1209 Oh for sure, I know those vibes too. I may be fond of the late-night techno scene, but I'm also a nightowl in my homebody persona, and when I was in grad-school, I often needed music that was compelling and kept me focused, but not so overpowering that it was distracting.

Esses finais intermináveis, em direção ao espaço sideral são uma marca dos primeiros álbuns do A-Ha, e mostram como eles são caprichosos e não tem pressa de terminar as canções. Talvez a formação em música clássica dos três membros.

I just skipped your reaction to "Touchy!" as I don't want to touch it ever again. ;D When STAY ON THESE ROADS came out a-ha were beginning to slip from the radar of the teen press, as Duran Duran had the year before. Bros were taking over. Does anyone remember? Better not. Anyway, I bought the LP and didn't like it much, my fave songs being "You Are The One" and "Hurry Home". Then they slipped from my radar as well. I discovered Prince instead. It took 15 years to get back to a-ha's (back) catalogue, and only then was I able to see the beauty in some of the tracks, especially in this one. I would have quoted some lyrics here, but floydmcmondo already did that. Not sure what it means exactly, but it feels amazing. As usual, it's the moodier songs that make the most impression on me.
@JesperHellvik2 жыл бұрын
oh I remember when Bros came along and supposedly was gonna challenge a-ha. It was laughable then and completely ridiculous thinking back on it today. A-ha was everything Bros was not - a serious and extremely talented band. Sorry Bros! One of the Bros brothers, Luke, did a great job as Prince Nuada in Hellboy 2, though.

Maybe it would be a good idea to include the lyrics, because you also value the meaning of the lyrics This alone is love No small thing This alone is love That my love brings And all of us Who are traveling by trap-doors Our souls are a myriad of wars And I'm losing everyone It will make my last breath pass out at dawn It will make my body dissolve out in the blue Oh baby, what can we do
