What her music peers and the listener who pays attention notice about Frida is her technical proficiency. And her unique sound that has an embedded emotion. Jon Lord, bragging on Frida, called her voice "specific and glorious."

Who else can make such incomparable vocals sound so effortless? Who else could decide a song this good was not worthy of release? No-one! Frida's soaring warm vocals are so magnificent here. Loved watching your reaction marvelling at the vocal work. Your reactions are the best.....as you near the end of the ABBA journey, I hope you will start on the solo stuff after.

OMG 😱.... Frida's voice always has me trembling at the knees 🥰 So looking forward to your reactions to the next Album 🤪 some of their finest work, it was slated by the critics from the music press of the time🤬 but what do they know, I've always said that music's critics for the Press are failed musicians who couldn't make it in the music. industry.

Another good ABBA song, which demonstrates its versatility in various musical genres "Put on your white sombrero" In my opinion, it clearly has reminiscences of Mexican melodies Frida's first voice is very powerful, and the final chorus is beautiful It was discarded to enter the album "Super Trouper" could have been included, but it doesn't stand out from the rest Great reaction, as always. and also making the entire ABBA catalog that comes to your disposal (you only have about three bonus tracks left, two from the first album and one from the third, but there will be time for that) My best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America

Powerful vocals by Frida and when Agnetha joins in later in the song it takes the song to yer another level.

Seeing as this track was shelved at the last moment, and B&B decided to write another song to replace it which could possibly be of the quality to release as a single (the track Super Trouper), I always wonder what goes through the minds of both the record company and the ABBA members when they ditch a song completely. In other words, Elaine was deemed suitable enough to be a B-side, even if it wasn't on the Super Trouper album, but this track wasn't. Personally, I love Elaine, and think that POYWS is a bit clunky and doesn't have the same magic as other songs in this ABBA era, but isn't so terrible that it couldn't have been a B-side, instead of remaining in the vaults for years.

This had remained as a leftover from the ST album in 1980 in favour of the Super Trouper song.Until it was resurfaced in 1994, 12 years after the band's break up,where the guys and engineer M.Tretow did some reworking in the backing track.

As a hard core fan since arround 1980 I discovered this one very late. I had to get used to it but know I like it very much. What a voice Frida has here. So powerfull. The production is not as good as it could have been (if it was put on the album I think) but still another example of their incredible versality. It could have been a big hit in the latin countries..

A song in which Abba murdered a metaphor but it would have been a better song to complere the super trouper album than the way old friends do was in my humble opinion. Its a pleasant song with some really beautiful harmonies.

Abba periodically dipped into Spanish/Latin American stereotypes for song ideas: 'Hasta Manana', 'Fernando', 'Put on your white Sombrero', 'Chiquitita'. In 1980 they also released a complete album of previously released songs re-recorded in Spanish (by the supremely versatile Agnetha and Frida), 'Gracias por la musica,' to cash in on their popularity in the Latin American Market.

Many songs released after ABBA took their 40 years break -- is thanks to ABBA historian/biographer, etc... Carl Magnus Palm. Carl over the years has earned the trust of the ABBA people as he began writing about the group decades ago. Carl is responsible for putting together compilation albums with previously unknown songs that were in ABBA's vault. Full songs, unfinished songs, bits and pieces... The Michael Tretow tapes: A few years ago Carl was asked by the ABBA people if he wanted to listen to "The MichaelTretow Tapes". If course he said yes. That meant, yet another book on ABBA. These tapes are an from a tape recorder that Tretow would record conversations had during recording sessions. This group was had fun in the studio. They laughed a lot. Played jokes on each other, but also very serious when putting songs together. The Tretow tapes spans over 7 years. Not every session. But many sessions very over a seven year period. Carl has put his findings in another book. He has written several books regarding ABBA. Nobody knows more about ABBA on earth than Carl Magnus Palm, outside of the ABBA/Polar Music team.

Just a suggestion: After you have speculated what a song is about you might read the lyrics before playing it. You frequently make comments during a song (which is fine) but you are bound to miss bits when you do.

I think you would like hearing Frida iconic covers. She has tons! American, British, Greek, Italian, etc... songs sung in Swedish. Beach Boys, Wouldn't It Be Nice Simon &Garfunkel, Sound of Silence Leonard Cohen, Suzanne Judy Collins, Send In The Clowns Ella Fitzgerald, Misty Beatles, The Long and Winding Road (demo) Pat Benatar, Fire and Ice David Bowie, Life on Mars and tons more.... You will get an understanding why she has such a great reputation among her peers. She is the real deal. She developed her craft on the stages since she was in grade school. She purposely avoided pop songs to develop her vocal skills, breathing, etc...

That metallic shimmer as Bjorn has explained is what happens when Frida comes from below. He said Frida puts an edge on her voice when the girls are in high unison. Bjorn explained that since Agnetha is a pure soprano and Frida is a mezzo-soprano, Frida has the longer travel. If you notice on ABBA songs, Frida sings all parts: alto, mezzo and soprano. She has an wide range.

I just realize that listening to the two voices together is an almost orgasmic experience. 💥 Isolated voices from Diego Toscano kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKCUeIWVepmUY80 Regarding this song, Benny reportedly said: I think we felt we were overdoing the Latin American bit. But it's a pretty nice song, it's got really good choirs on it: they're a bit Walt Disney" (source: Bobby's Brother's KZbin Channel)

The song was only discovered in 1993 when a biographer was going through the archives for a book he was writing on ABBAs recording sessions. Benny and Björn immediately dismissed it as nonsense until they played it and realised just how good it was. Benny performs it with his band on stage during their summer concerts.

Carl Magnus Palm. He is the person that knows more about ABBA than anyone else on earth. Early on he managed to secure a interview with Michael B Tretow. Micheal knew right away that Carl did his homework -- as Carl knew things and "corrected" Michael B Tretow on details. He eventually got face-to-face interviews with 3 of the core four. Frida, Benny & Bjorn. Agnetha declined a face-to-face interview, but agreed to a written interview, which Carl said was disappointing. He said nothing can replace a face-to-face interview because of the instant verbal and facial reactions, etc... Over the decades multiple books on ABBA have been written by Carl Magnus Palm. Bjorn Ulvares has written a forward in one of Carl's books. Carl is the man responsible for getting never heard songs, parts of songs, and putting together ABBA box sets, with commentary.

Yeah, this is near the bottom of my ABBA ranking. There's a reason they shelved it for 14 years... good thing they wrote Super Trouper to replace it. They re-used part of the melody for the song Cassandra, which is way better.

I have mixed feelings with this song. I don't really like the synthesizer here but I don't think I would have liked the trumpets either, which would have been surprising from ABBA anyway... But I like so Frida who is an extremely versatile vocalist and who, according to Björn, could sing everything. Here she explodes everything and when Agnetha joins her, it's fireworks.

The key line of the song, is indeed the last one: "... I need a man that is in rhyme with his time", not someone that lives according to ancient male/female stereotypes or believes what can be seen on the white screen has anything to do with real life.

The backing track of Sombrero has a bit of a feel of just a temp track. I have a feeling it may have gone through another couple of passes had they not just abandoned it. It could do with some real brass instruments in the mix instead of the muddy synth track. Onward to The Visitors where everyone is miserable😣!

Oh, this is one of a very few ABBA songs I always skip (alongside "Watch Out", "Wonder", "I'm A Marionette", "Lovelight" and "I Have A Dream") - it's too schlager-esque for me, like music boring people like to hear in boring German TV shows of the 70s and 80s. Nothing interesting about it for me, sorry. Just like "I Have A Dream", whereas "Watch Out" and "Lovelight" absolutely lack melody IMHO. For "I Wonder" and "I'm A Marionette" I can't give any specific reasons, I just don't find them pleasant at all, sorry.

Adam, you have made it clear that you don't like this song. As a latecomer to ABBA's deeper catalogue, I find this to be as good an example of the ladies' harmonies as any ABBA offering. They are simply superb. If I had any criticism of the song it would be that the musical accompaniment is not as "thoughtful" as other efforts by Benny in that it is repetitive without ever adding more layers (which is possibly why B&B thought it was not worthy of inclusion on Super Trouper).

I'm Swedish and my 9 year older sister played Abba's album and when the CDs came out I bought them because I grew up with the songs. 😮 BUT😢, this was the third Abba song so you play that I never heard.... And the third that I never want to hear again... I understand and I'm glad that these didn't come out on any Albums... Really glad .... a little feeling of shame arises when such bad songs come out.😂Sorry! But thats my feeling
