So, your upward travel is still the same, while giving you more downward travel, and more clearance. Very cool.

the cherokee xj's are so popular and expensive in my country that the cheapest you can ever find will go for around 3.4 grands and for one without failures it will cost you about 5.2 grands ... wish i could buy them as cheap is they are in the US and as always i love your contents very entertaining ! For a video idea how about making a video that describes the sort of problems an xj may have and how to avoid them? i'd say it's a pretty good topic that could attract many viewers

Thanks for this video. I've been wanting to move the mounts on my XJ for the same reasons. You mentioned possibly bottoming out the shock. Could you get a different length shock (shorter) to prevent that? What if you lifted the Jeep by 3 inches and also relocated the mounts? Maybe then you could use the stock length shock?

In the zooooooneee - tommy nice work guys, but wouldnt it be more efficient for the shocks if you positioned it closer to the center of the axle; where it is closer to being perpendicular to the axle itself? but it would also make it alot stiffer though, i think
@PabstBoys8 жыл бұрын
The opposite actually. would be over leveraged and make it rocky side to side. The other problem would be that the shock would be too short to fit perpendicular. Good question though. Cheers Bud!!

John DeHaan Jr. Yes you have to change the length
@blacksails_838 жыл бұрын
could you put the mounts towards the top of the axle?, if you still have shock travel though. I just think that would create better clearance, imo.

You figured us out!! Now we gotta find another way to come up with video ideas..... Damn!! Shocks are from a 4.5 lift and we're at 6.5 now, so no worry about the mod.
@TheJoeyfishy7 жыл бұрын
What if you put the bracket on the top of the axle? So kind of just flip it and weld it on the top instead of on the bottom? I feel like that'll give it even more clearance, the only issue I see is possible bottoming out the shock if you have a lot of up travel.

Hey Guys, I have a STOCK Height XJ and I'm wanting to LIFT it 3.5" with the RE Kit. I'm trying to be low budget and I don't want to have to buy NEW SHOCKS for the lift as I just bought new shocks for my stock Ride Height. If I did this MOD will it give my current shocks enough room? In other words, has anyone ever measured STOCK Length SHOCKS to those needed for a 3.5" lift. How much longer are they?
@PabstBoys8 жыл бұрын
Well. you'll never bottom them out, but they'll limit your downward travel. Never measured for that, but the worst that could happen is you blow your shocks and have to buy new ones. I'd say giv'er for now till you can afford replacements. Cheers Bud!
@UndergroundTrev8 жыл бұрын
Good to see you guys working on the Jeep again! Cool mod. How does it affect your suspension travel though?
@PabstBoys8 жыл бұрын
Yes, It makes the stuff a little shorter, (but we had too much anyway) and the suspended down travel longer.
@tylernutter69688 жыл бұрын
sweet! How much lift do you think that added, if any? because every bit helps!
@PabstBoys8 жыл бұрын
No lift. But we have a farther suspended droop, witch helps a lot.
@patcb8298 жыл бұрын
Are those shocks completely toasted? They don't seem to have any real down travel, making them way to short even shortening the overall length with this mod. Love the videos guys.

@saltymethods26378 жыл бұрын
Question: Why does the manufacturer put the shock brackets so far down? On my Land Cruiser it's similarly so low. What's the advantage?
@PabstBoys8 жыл бұрын
Stock ride hight is a lot lower. you can fit a much longer shock in a stock vehicle with the bracket down so low. With our lift, the leafs are nearly flat at ride hight so we dont anticipate much up travel, but would like more suspended down travel. This mod allows that. Hope that answered your question...

So I ordered these brackets myself, I havent installed them yet. What size lift are you running and what size shocks with it? i have 4.5-6" rough countrys right now and im worried that with too much preload it may shorten the life of the shock itself.
@PabstBoys8 жыл бұрын
4.5 lift Zone shocks at 6" total lift. Wheeling shortens the life of any part. LOL, but we'll see
@JgCompTech7 жыл бұрын
How will this affect the performance of my RC shocks on the 4.5 lift kit i just installed?, im also using BPE's on the top mount shocker.
@PabstBoys7 жыл бұрын
Nothing will diminish the performance of your shocks more than who you got them from, but you might wanna check the min. travel point and make sure that your bump stops, stop them before they cram up in and blow out the seals in your shocks.

If you do this your shocks will bottom out too early limiting your up travel and damaging the shock internals.
4 жыл бұрын
Not if you have a lift already.
@MSpeedThree4 жыл бұрын
blackened 1 in that case your shocks will be too short for the application and will be at full extension before you reach full spring articulation. This will negate your travel gain from the lift and put stress on the shock internals eventually destroying the shock. Long story short you need the correct shock for the application or you will run into problems. This video = bad advice.
@MSpeedThree4 жыл бұрын
blackened 1 moving the shock mount that much with the setup they have will essentially make your rear suspension not work. You’ll have about an inch and a half of up travel before it bottoms out. I hope you do this mod to your Jeep.
