"One bite at a time and in no time the whole elephant will be eaten". Those were good repairs. Enjoyed the clip, thanks for sharing. Fun fact, from my technical school course back in the day, the spring is actually the shock absorber and the shock absorber is known as a damper. What has happened is over time, folks got the two terms mixed up. And another fun fact, the car seats or any vehicle are part of the suspension system.

It's probably changed over the year when they started combining a shock absorber and damper in one unit like a coil over, or Mc Pherson strut type setup

This will be a super strong car for someone when finished attention to detail is much to be commended Keith. It really brings it home to you - do not keep a Mini out in the rain the construction just will not take it over any period of time . They do need to be in dry garages if you are going to own one. Lovely sharp pictures.

Hi Keith. That looks like a good job and the car is really coming on now. I might take a look at my shock bracket mounts when the weather improves in case there is anything I can do before a hole develops.

Doing a great job Kieth, but you would benefit from using a mini belt sander on your welds, just so they are invisble, quite cheap from screwfix, give them a go mate 👍👍

I've been considering using weld thru primer , but if it contaminates and compromises the weld I think I'll pass on it. Because in the first place it's just primer in a spot you can't paint , so it wil rust anyway and because of a lesser weld it wil rust sooner . . . right ? 🤔
@classicminiworkshop
@classicminiworkshop Жыл бұрын
It's still probably better than using nothing but like I say in the video, it's doesn't weld as clean as when it's just bare metal. You should still get a decent weld penetration though
@bebobism

@@classicminiworkshop I think I'm better of without it and just use rustproofing spray afterwards . I'm working on a 1977 mini now and that has been sprayed with it behind the sills and the inside looks like new.

Hi Keith, I was just wondering why when you made the new front piece for the inner wing why you didn't include enough metal to bend around at the front to make a flange for the front panel to weld to?
@classicminiworkshop
@classicminiworkshop Жыл бұрын
I'm not quite sure what you mean? The flange is part of the replacement front panel.

Hi Keith. With all the patching you’ve done, would it have been less time consuming just to replace the inner wing? Nice job mind.
@classicminiworkshop
@classicminiworkshop Жыл бұрын
The inner wing is very complex to replace and £258 so I think it was worth repairing the old panel.

Hi Keith this might be a stupid question, but could you put one thick piece of steel in, instead of the two layers for the shock mount?
@classicminiworkshop

Yes, you could do. I've never thought of that before
