This movie, to my knowledge, is no where on the internet (not including 123movies) except for Caitlyn Keefer who posted it several years ago on KZbin. I thank her for that, so im adding on to that favor by adding a better-def version to KZbin, hers was a bit choppy in some areas. Big fan of Rocky horror and Shock Treatment is a pretty good movie compared to what people say. More people should watch this movie. its truly amazing

I saw this movie at midnight in a theater in Denton, TX. Richard O'Brien was there (it was a special preview showing). I thought it was a damn good movie, but I knew it would flop, because everyone was expecting a "new Rocky Horror", which it definitely was not. It was too weird for mainstream audiences, and not what the Rocky crowd wanted, so it pretty much had no audience. I remember a bunch of our Rocky group started wearing Shock Treatment costumes and I knew that would never work. Oh well. It's still a gem of a film.

Really just... bad advertising, bad marketing, bad release times. They should not have marketed it as a rocky horror sequel. they should have just marketed it as a musical movie w/ satire.

Richard O'Brien has gone on record saying he thinks the songs are far better than RHPS and I couldn't agree more. I have the soundtrack album and regularly play it just for the songs. Never understood why it didn't get more reaction even after a botched theatrical release. The songs, satire and performances are outstanding. My favourite musical of all time.

*Spoilers* Let us see what messages I got from the movie: 1) Fame is like a drug - you always need more, and the more you consume it, the more it fries your brain 2) TV is also like a drug, and people would willingly go insane to get their 15 minutes/second of fame (the studio audience being committed in the end) Yep, this movie predicted influencers and the effects of social media to enhance human narcissism before the Internet was even a thing.

This is such a great movie, so underrated. It’s a shame that it’s basically doomed to live in the shadow of Rocky Horror. Yes, Shock Treatment has a similar campy style and classic glam rock infused soundtrack, but otherwise it’s really its own thing. Also, while Rocky Horror mostly works as a satirical tribute to old sci-fi movies, Shock Treatment is much more effective at holding a mirror up to society, criticizing celebrity culture, consumerism and the corporatization of… well, just about everything. I like Rocky Horror, but I LOVE Shock Treatment. Maybe now that it’s proven somewhat prophetic, the movie will gain some much deserved popularity and critical reevaluation.

Right? It is so relevant and applicable even today, and I don't why Richard O'Brien is so disappointed in it. Things as small as them saying "tolerance for the ethnic races" when they sing about Denton and you see today how even movies preach about how they are tolerant and diverse, while back in the 1980's it wasn't that big of an issue; reality TV before it was a thing and the blind following of celebrities. Such an underrated, intelligent movie.

When you consider the background on this picture, it is amazing it was made and phenomenal from all that happened to get it made. Couple that with a first rate cast, great soundtrack (actually written for a different script and fit into this one), and the fact it was put together during a actors strike and moved to a different country at the last minute and it is beyond comprehension how good it is! Richard O’Brien truly forecast reality TV with this script and spoke to the state of the current political failures in America almost 40 years before they happened. It’s a great movie that never got the first run it deserved.

I was just a few weeks shy of my 11th birthday when this movie came out. It was deep the era of radio station giveaways and I was caller number (Don't remember) and the local top 40 radio station 96FM was giving away 2 tickets to the Shock Treatment's opening day premiere. I went to a late night screening, with my Dad, and it made an indelible impression on me. I think Rocky Horror is great, although it would be 5 years later before I finally saw it, again with my Dad at a college student union midnight screening, but Shock Treatment ranks just a tiny bit higher thanks to my own nostalgia. Plus... Holy cow, could this movie and music hold a more prophetic mirror to todays society? Wow!

I've been a rocky horror fan for years. I've never seen this. From what I'm reading in the comments, it was a flop, so I guess it just didn't get seen much, or get much traction later, and that's a shame. I think to truly enjoy it you need to understand that it's it's own thing. It is amazing! I love it on so many levels! The satire on society, major influence of corporations and media driven by profits, no matter the harm to others. Boxing yourself in with group thinking, the power of going against the narrative with reasoning, that gets you labeled crazy, but in the end your own personal inner freedom frees you. Not to mention the phenomenal music, choreography, symbolism, and wardrobe! Love it!

I have been a HUGE fan of Rocky Horror since about 1980, and I remember when Shock Treatment came out........I actually saw it in the theater when it was released. The theater was packed with Rocky Horror fans, but we were all trying to somehow relate this new movie to the original RHPS, and no one was quite sure how to do that. Also, since Shock Treatment did not have Tim Curry, Barry Bostwick, or Susan Sarandon, I think that worked against the sequel. For true fans of the RHPS, Shock Treatment is definitely worth watching. I thank you for posting this in it's entirety, as every now and then I have wondered how I could watch it again.

I think the ending is about the group realizing they need to live their life in their own terms. Not fueled by ego or what other people think, just have the life they want. As for the townspeople, you can’t cure stupid. Brad and Janet couldn’t save them, maybe Denton will learn their lesson, maybe not. Either way, they left, not letting this get in their ways.

I remember watching this in 1982. I was an enormous Rocky Horror fan & this seemed like rubbish. Well, half the songs are, but it really is a fun movie. Rocky Horror had the advantage of being worked on stage for a year or two before it was filmed. It would have sharpened this movie to be pretty much as good as Rocky Horror if this had also been a stage show, especially if a bunch of songs had been rewritten. But, at its core, this movie had many fun ideas + is entertaining.

I didn't even know there was a "sequel" to "Rocky Horror" til just now when I watched it lol. It's funny cuz just the other day I was thinking a sequel/spinoff about Riff Raff and Magenta back in thier home planet could be really interesting

Like horror films? See Jessica Harper in Suspiria 1977. But better yet, see Tilda Swinton in Suspiria 2018. You won't be disappointed. PS - Go Rocky Horror!!! (Rocky, Rocky ra ra ra!)

Brilliant... Instead of the 'planned' audience all going home they stay the night & sleep in their seats as.... They 'd fall asleep in front of their Screens (TV or other) anyway!

Well. this was strange. It seemed kind of modern. I basically enjoyed it, but Rocky Horror has better music. I liked seeing some of the same actors again. Janet had a completely different personality from the other movie; and I understood why somebody else on this said it was like the two stories were running on parallel timelines.. as this didn't seem like it would be a sequel. Thanks for posting. I had no idea it existed.

still crazy to me that Brad and Farley are both played by the same actor

It's creepy how prophetic this movie became like 10 years later we got the first season of the Real World, Survivor not long after. This was supposed to be a light parody of game show and television culture that somehow became our reality. To the point that someone who was well known for reality television later became president. You could easily see that becoming the case for Farley if the movie went on for another ten min.

this is a take on the movie network. the tv studio is a mental institution and the audeince are the patients. there was going to be 2 more sequals but tim curry turned them down.
