The structure of the Ice Bar is not concrete. It's a technique attempted by the Harbin Institute of Technology for China's lunar base, constructed using a membrane structure, then strengthened and thickened using dust. Here, snow is utilized; in the future, lunar soil will be used on the moon. It can be quickly assembled to form a space that provides protection and maintains temperature. Most of the 'buildings' in the Ice and Snow World are temporary; as the weather warms, they will melt and disappear. So, what you're seeing this time is a unique experience! Love your video!
@Grrzyy11 ай бұрын
A few years ago the BBC produced a documentary about how it was built. According to the introduction, the roof of the bar is made of water and paper pulp, sprayed layer by layer, and solidified. Once spring arrives, the roof will melt and no removal is required.

I used to live in Harbin for 3 years before we moved to UK, the ice festival wasn’t as popular as it is now especially this year, the most popular place to be in China atm, it is just breath taking, once a life time experience 😊 We sold everything and moved back to Beijing last year and I am so happy, it is dream come true, hope you guys having awesome time in China 🧨🧧
Great! I've never been in the winter, I'm a bit scared of the cold. In the summer, it's an awesome place too but obviously, winter in Harbin is something else! Glad you enjoy travelling in China. It's been my home for 16 years now.
Wow, oh wow, Steve lvana, thanks a bunch for showcasing this mind blowing Harbin Ice and Snow Festival to us. These super duper beautiful ice cravings showed how creative the sculptors were. And those colourful lightings were indeed amazing. Oh gosh, those ice activities were so fun and entertaining. Oh CHINA, you are truly great, magnificent, wonderful and splendid. Beware of the South Koreans. They contacted the Harbin ice-sculpture masters and entice the team to do the same thing there! Once the Koreans learned the skills they will apply for UNESCO. Sichuan Zi-Gong lantern festival which was originated from the Tang dynasty, was conned by South Korea where skills were imparted to the Koreans from 2002. After 18 years South Korean applied for UNESCO heritage with minor name changed and got it.

The game at 4:51 is called "打陀螺(da tuo luo)" or "打冰尜(da bing ga)". Although the word "陀螺" first showed up in literature from Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644), the game itself was believed to gain its popularity since Northern Wei dynasty (386 - 534) under a different name "独乐(du le)". It's a traditional game played in winter and spring and it's not unusual for people to make their own spinning tops.

👍Love your Harbin footage! Ivana looks so cute and Steve ‘s joy with wonderment in laughter! So vey heart warming!👏👏👏❤ By the way on the bright side even with the crowds in the recent years China had developed bigger and much nicer transportation hubs. It’s more modern and organized with a lot better crowd control. Also advantage of travelling from Harbin to Xian may be less crowded than travelling from big cities of Beijing & Shanghai to other provinces. China is vast , beautiful and has its uniqueness in different regions! It also can stretch your dollars. It’s one of the safest country to travel even when u r a female solo traveller. Chinese had instilled in its culture of being hospitable. Once it got discovered, I don’t think it will take too long for the savvy travellers gravitating to China. Especially with the seemingly recent visa free 144 hr visit encouraging visits from abroad.

Thanks for this video and for promoting my hometown! China is home to many amazing cities but Harbin is truly unique in what it has to offer, with a fine blend of western and Manchurian Chinese culture that you can't possibly find elsewhere. Also what many don't know is that Harbin is where the Jin Dynasty 金朝 originated. If you have a chance, you can check out the Jin Shangjin Historical Museum at the outskirt of Harbin and explore that history and artifacts. Have been abroad for 20 years and seen many nice museums over the years, yet I still remember the strong impression it left on me the first time I saw it as a kid.
