"In 2023, one-fifth of Chinese international students were expelled from foreign universities. This news is reported everywhere. I have to say they deserved it. Over the past three years of the pandemic, many Chinese students exploited numerous loopholes. With all exams shifted online, what are they good at? Cheating, buying test papers, buying answers, and buying grades. They shouldn't have been at those universities in the first place, but they managed to buy their way through. So, what else can be done other than expelling them?”

Depends. I know about 25 or so Chinese, probably more but cannot remember on the top of my head. Most of them don't really have abilities to operate independently in society. They rely heavily on their parents and services (some already mentioned in the video). But the few that do have abilities, really excel. Know a Chinese kid that won regional math competitions and went to MIT. Another really networks and work for US economic department. But if we're talking about average IQ across population, I would not say Chinese have the highest average IQ out of the bunch.

I caught several Chinese student blatantly cheating on multiple occasions while in China and they and the school didn't give a crap. Just told me to scold and re-test. I currently have students from Vietnam and they are disappointingly the same. I think it speaks to culture and generational value issues. Don't get me wrong, North American students do it rampantly as well (way more so than before). The difference is when they're caught they at least know it's wrong and don't negotiate a way out. My Chinese and Vietnamese students seem to think "what's the big deal? I was just trying to get a good result (without the work)".

i was in graduate school. A Chinese professor from another department called me out of the blue and asked me if I could tutor a Chinese student who was in my program. I said I’d be happy to help. I scheduled a session with her, but when the time came, she didn’t show up. Two hours later, she called me saying she overslept. I was kind-hearted and rescheduled. The second time, she came over (late also) and we started. I explained to her how I studied in the class and went over my notes. We studied public administration and alot of the knowledge was based on a foundation of American history. I realized she had no clue about anything American. I lent her some of my notes telling her I wanted them back. That was stupid of me, because I never heard back from her and never got my notes back. I’m Asian (American) but not Chinese. Chinese students are given every benefit of the doubt at US universities, including with respect to their English abilities. Their papers are graded very leniently, their professors are very accommodating. ... this is because they pay very high international tuition rates. The universities don't want to get off that Chinese tuition gravy train. So Chinese students are not dismissed lightly. Korean student international tuition is very important to universities as well, but in my experience they work very hard, even if their English isn't always quite where it should be. Same for Japanese students, although their English is usually worse than Korean students'.

I helped grade papers for some history classes, for papers written in class.. which is how I found out they didn’t speak English. Professor asked me to speak to a few of the students that were failing, to see if I could help. One girl could literally only say ‘my name is Claire’. That was it. She ended up passing the class of course, because diversity is our strength. I moved to another country for a job later on and met a girl from my school that graduated with a doctorates in biology I think it was. If this is so culturally acceptable, it’s unsurprising they cheat at university. Where I live in SE Asia, plagiarism is virtually unheard of and, if you can cheat and don’t, you are thought strange. Some local teachers actively encourage students to cheat as the teachers are judged on their student’s results. I’m not sure the two cultures are compatible.

I’m retired from a very large university in Canada. The student discipline department was part of the office I worked in. When that office was busy, I would sometimes have to attend student trials assisting the overflow of cases. Since I was working in the governance section of the university I would see 100% of the cases in paper work format . They were always confidential, but I had access to this material for governance purposes. After a while I noticed that the bulk of these cases involved foreign students. I assumed they were mostly Chinese, but a colleague in that department told me… it was mostly South Koreans. People should not assume that only orientals cheat. It is widespread. Foreign students get caught more often for deficiencies in cultural and linguistic skills, which are not at the same level as domestic students. In other words white kids are better at evading detection than foreigners. Regardless the cases were very sad indeed. I absolutely hated assisting this department. Luckily I only had to fill in when my colleague was on vacation and if it was busy. I probably attended 15 cases in total over 11 years. As one colleague said to me… it would have been easier if the student just put in the effort to study instead. She was referring to a student that had gone to great lengths to break into a room where exams were kept. The entire thing was caught on video (and presented at the trial). I had no idea anyone could do that with a coat hanger!

Before retirement, I taught 11-18 year old pupils at a school near to a university popular with post-graduates from abroad. Most brought their families with them, and many of their children attended our school. When they first arrived, the children from East Asia, who usually spoke English at a high level, were well behaved. However, they quickly felt that they were falling behind their English peers. They were so-used to the rote learning of facts that they could not cope with being asked to think. They could pour out vast amounts of fact but were unable to come up with ideas of their own. Consequently, their behaviour deteriorated, cheating increased, and they developed a dismissive attitude towards others in the class. Only their rote learning was valued, and ideas were a waste of time. Thankfully, because they were often with us for two or more years, they began to see the value of ideas and became enthusiastic in lessons. However, under stress, the cheating reappeared. It was ingrained in the psyche. I often wonder how they reintegrated into school once they returned home, and they had to learn that facts were the main objective in education.

Imagine just barely missing the cut for an Ivy League school and discovering half the exchange students that got accepted got kicked out because they pay for ghost writers and are actually stupid.

You should worry about DEI and affirnative action in your own school and work place. These foreigners have to pay while your own native citizen cheats their way from the bottom to the top for free.

Imagine how much more they would find if Universities and police departments send undercover writers to these ghostwriter companies. 😮

Yep, really common in Australia. When i was doing my degree you'd see a huge bunch of chinese students the first week (probably a third to just under half the class of about 300) and never see them again. One year in our final project, a Chinese student tried to bribe me to give him a higher % grade of our team project, that he never turned up for.

I have talked to a lot of students in mainland. After a few years I they finally figured it out talking with me. They are cheating to finish a task as quick as possible. They are not are there to learn. BA>MS>PhD Those are just milestones to cheat past, not to learn for. Total cultural difference. To be honest it's tests that have failed them. The tests have nurtured a factory mindset.

Many years ago while at college I had a job on camus that brought me into contact with many international students. So many tried to bribe me to write papers for them and the instances of cheating was mind blowing.

when i went to college for computer engineering i offered the international students from india and china help if they needed it, as i knew how hard it can be to be a foreigner in a strange land and then went to the bathroom. i came back to a good fraction of the class huddled around my laptop and emailing all of my code to themselves. when i worked out exactly what the hell i was looking at i walked over and slammed the laptop shut on their fingers and dragged it to the professor and told them what happened and opened the laptop to show him the draft. he took the laptop, deleted the draft and nothing ever came of it. that was at mohawk college in ontario canada almost a decade ago, and i have zero doubt that the majority of each class claiming to be opressed minorities has only gotten exponentially worse since the pervasive woke culture gives them way too many chances and excuses. i'm inuit and never used it as a shield or sword to defend my failings or attack someone for pointing out a flaw of my own. i pray that more people conduct themselves as i do but it's got to be a futile prayer...

U.S. Observer: U.S. students are "Unimpressive" compared to other developed and even developing countries study finds 👎 'One of the biggest cross-national tests is the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which every three years measures reading ability, math and science literacy and other key skills among 15-year-olds in dozens of developed and developing countries. The most recent PISA results, from 2015, placed the U.S. an unimpressive 38th out of 71 countries in math and 24th in science. Among the 35 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which sponsors the PISA initiative, the U.S. ranked 30th in math and 19th in science. 🤭 -Pew Research Center
