The charities cannot pay their own bills. Big energy companies have pulled away from contracting with churches and small charities. This is one of the biggest spends for each. Other areas are building, refurbishing those old buildings, telecoms where needed, and other. The hoops churches and charities have to jump just to stay afloat are abysmal. I work in supply chain and have heard some incredible stories. Charities, in particular, are just that, and if grants for which they apply do not come to their charity, they go under. It’s a simple as that..sad as it is.

The affect of the cold will impact on disabilities and those managing at home with little care will require more or be moved to care homes via the hospitals which assess the elderly on admission. The high cost of care will fall on social care and there was a crisis in 2022 when carers were not available to meet demand

The more of us they kill off the less they have to pay out. Think about all the elderly who died during lockdown, isolated from their families. The retirement age keeps rising. Unless people today are able to build up a decent retirement pension a lot of people will have to work until they literally drop dead. Also not all baby boomers are rich. A big majority were employed in manual labour that has taken a toll on their health. It is vitally important that we oldies who are blessed with good health do everything possible to keep ourselves fit and healthy

Disgusting. Mum worked most of her adult life, got an offer before retirement to pay a couple of thousand to bring her contributions up to date for full pension, paid it thinking she would be better off. Spent three years caring for my dad who got diagnosed with terminal cancer (who also worked hard his whole life looking forward to retiring but never reached that age). Then she was diagnosed with advanced Parkinsons. She is now 80 and everyday is a struggle, including keeping warm as she doesn’t move around much anymore (plus also currently on blood thinners for a blood clot on the lung). She would have been better off not paying that couple of thousand and getting pension credit. This government is definitely not for the workers and those workers who have spent most of their lives working. Get them out!

@@rowan7658 Thank you, Parkinsons is horrible. How the doctors missed the signs for so long i don’t know. It took the urologist at the hospital to write a letter to our doctors to say she thinks she may have Parkinsons. Parkinsons Consultant could tell just by looking at her face, besides all the other symptoms. I work full time but cook all her meals (feed her on bad days), get her up out of bed in the morning, wash her (she cant get in a bath anymore), help dress her, wash and dry her hair and get her changed and in to bed at night. Clean. She cant really do much now. She buys most of her own incontinence stuff which isn’t cheap. Sorry you have been affected by Parkinsons too, its a cruel disease x

My wife is a long term MS sufferer worked all her life paid TAX and NI, now retired, their is no way she will get fuel support anymore. Thanks Labour. On the plus side though all these young fit illegal migrants (mostly men) get fed and a warm place and all the service's they never paid a penny into. But for me , I worked all my life, retired 7 year ago and recovering from open hart surgery I too will not get fuel support this year, and due to blood thinners and other drugs I really feel the cold.

Because aid to Ukraine makes sense. It is basically money being spent on our own defence. Especially as a lot of the aid is sent in the form of ammunition that is approaching its service life, hence the UK would have to pay to dispose of it. One thing to remember is that older pensioners will get less of a rise next April than younger ones, about 75% if I remember correctly. The government and outlets such as BBC News headline an increase of £460 but for those born before 1951 it's only £350. Older people suffer more from the cold than younger ones so this is a ploy to make sure that older pensioners suffer and die soon!

I’m a 71 year old, when I was making my way onto the housing market it was easy. The government bought me a house, I had a 4 day week job 2 of which were working from home. When I needed a car I just contacted the local council and they delivered a new Cortina the next day. So now I am absolutely loaded and spend most of my time trying to think what to spend my pension on. The winter fuel allowance doesn’t bother me I jet off to my Spanish villa through the winter months. Oh hang on I’ve just woken up what a shame it was such a lovely dream, that’ll teach me to listen to Labour propaganda against the old just before I go to bed.

Remember that swathes of pensioners support the economy free gratis !! By providing reliable and loving childcare to grandchildren they allow the parents to work. Personally I spent most of the summer doing such and have done for years. I’m often called upon to give after school support as well. Thank you Starmer, how spiteful.
