If you recall, Ohtani started rather slow last season. In the interview with NHK, he said that the Ippei scandal was a huge mental distraction, which he says he hasn’t completely overcome yet. In addition, he was physically busy with meetings and answering questions from the authority and presumably from his lawyers. This resulted in him not being able to sleep as much as he wanted. Given how much he values sleeping, this most likely contributed to his slow start and robbed the chance to do 60/60!
@k.p9810Күн бұрын
exactly. Last year, he went 40 at bats Home-run less at the beginning of the season, and that was his career worst record. If it wasn’t for Ippei, he would’ve hit at least 3 more homers. At least!! Or could have reached 60/60. Ippei affected the baseball history.

Shohei was truly going through a tough time in 2024. Just being betrayed by a partner he trusted completely must be an unimaginable emotional burden. On top of that, he's faced gambling accusations from haters and the media, was joked about by Serena Williams at the ESPYS award, and he had to deal with investigations and media inquiries. Despite all this, he hasn’t complained once, has handled everything with sincerity, and continued to deliver outstanding results. His character is truly exceptional. I’m just so glad he now has Mamiko, Decoy, their soon-to-be-born baby, and supportive teammates and staff by his side.

With the "Angels" Shohei was protected; Ippei had control over everything! Which means he only answered questions on days he pitched!

I’ve said this from day one but you don’t use your own account if you’re planning a “fall guy”. Put yourself in Shohei’s position. Would you ask someone, your friend, spouse, or sibling, to be your fall guy and yet use your own account and somehow think no one would ever know you’re involved? I can’t imagine what Shohei had to go through at the beginning of the season with a new team and being accused from practically the whole media, and yet to accomplish “one of a kind historical season” is unthinkable. LA is lucky to have this once in a history ball player.

Ippei not only stole ohtani's money but also ruined his credibility. And giving his hater chance to hate on him. Plus possibility to ruin his season. Good thing that ohtani an overcome this distraction and making history

It’s too bad that Ippei went on the rouge road like that, though. For those who are not perfectly conversant in English and Japanese, I tell you that Ippei was one of the best, if not the best, as far as interpretation skill, second to none.

Yes, It has nothing to do with gambling. Ippei team want to make up the stories to make Ippei look less guilty. so they came up with those ridiculous stories. But they’re not helping cause the evidences contradict them. For example, when Ippei helped Shohei open an account when he first arrived in the US back in 2018, Ippei memorized Shohei’s password and later changed Shohei’s bank account information such as notification address and telephone number to his. This means he had been plotting to take advantage of this young Shohei, the golden goose, long before he said he got acquainted with the bookie. He claimed that he was underpaid but as an interpreter, he’s definitely overpaid. He didn’t have to live like Shohei. He doesn’t have to live in a fancy mansion just because Shohei lives in one. He doesn’t have to live like celebrities just because your boss is rich. Besides Shohei doesn’t live like Hollywood celebrities. It is so clear Ippei was getting paid more than enough. It’s just he didn’t know how to use his money properly just like many other gamblers. If he’s really sorry and feeling remorse, he wouldn’t come up with these made up excuses. I think he’s really a bad guy. Worse than we think. No matter how innocent Shohei is, there always will be some crazy people claiming the conspiracy theory. And it will follow him around forever. 5 years in prison is not enough at all. it’s unforgivable.

Not a good idea to deport him to Japan. He needs to be imprisoned here in this country with the most scary people 😂. Just kidding. But I know Shohei is 100% innocent. Shohei is not interested in anything else but to become the best baseball player, GOAT. If baseball journalists do not understand that, he or she should be ousted as a journalist along with a guy or a gal who voted NO to Ichiro’s HOF vote. We will find him/her.

International draft system wouldn’t work as far as NPB players. I’m very sure Sasaki wanted to play for Dodgers with Ohtani and Yamamoto. That’s why he came to MLB for not waiting for a big contract after 2 more years. If he was going to be drafted by this suggested rule, he would have waited 2 more years so that he could clear 25 year old rule.

The Dodgers took advantage of other teams struggles with players. I think Boston gets a bad rap for trading Betts as Betts wanted to ger free agency and somehow the Dodgers not only traded for him but somehow convinced to sign long-term. The other option was to let Betts walk for. Nothing. Boston was in a no win situation. Freddie wanted to go only to ATL but they kept in the convo and when Atl called his agents bluff trading for Matt Olsen the Dodgers were already there Then adding Ohtani and Yamamoto in one off-season to take the team to another level. Another thing that gets overlooked is their stars are selfless and are willing to sacrifice personal accolades to win.

I can't believe that there are still people who criticize Shohei Otani. They are comparing their own low-level values with Shohei's values, and criticizing him simply because they themselves cannot accept Shohei's values. There is no legitimate basis or evidence. There is only the assertion that "Shohei and I have different values." It may be hard to believe, but Shohei's mother managed all of his salary since he was a professional baseball player in Japan. He only received the bare minimum. The rest of his money was in a bank account under Shohei's name, and he never used it during his time as an NPB player. It's a famous story in Japan. That's how uninterested Shohei Otani is in money.
