Will EVs like Tesla ever be affordable for the average person?
@solarguy485014 күн бұрын
They are now. Gas is 4x more expensive than electricity mile for mile if you can plug in at home. EVs also last 50% longer than gas cars and have almost no maintenance. Try one .. they are a hoot to drive!

@@solarguy4850 You have to consider the fact that not everyone has a house with a garage to have home charging. Yes it may be cheaper to charge than it is to fuel but, when you have to plug in and stay awhile and all for a short and shitty range especially when on a long range travel, charging should be free. My long distance travels amount to over 7 thousand miles a year or more. I'll take the gas and the 3 minutes it takes and the 570 miles of range i get for it. Money i have, time i don't. Try one? I did. I had a model S. I got rid of that crap. I prefer a large full size luxury automobile which tesla dosent even make. A large full size luxury automobile, paid off at 41K, 3 minutes to fuel, 570 miles of range, and more than a pleasure to drive, I'll keep my jaguar XJl and leave well enough alone. When mr Elon Musk comes out with an EV that provides these same fine qualities and improvements, now we're talkin! Till then, you can have the EV along with their limited provisions....

Hyundai wanted 13 grand for replacing a noise electric engine. The skilled mechanic disassembled the engine and replaced a ball bearing for a few bucks after he had to do some research to find a compatible ball bearing as Hyundai refused to deliver a replacement part inside the full electric engine. The problem is that this repair is common in industry but not in a modern car shop.

The costs and increasing,a garage will refuse ti store them inside, when will garages refuse to keep them inside?

A pot-hole is potentially the end of your car, hiw can you inspect EVERY BATTERY CELL? A pot/hole will destroy the welding/soldering joints of each individual cell
@David-fj5lz5 күн бұрын
Why does not anyone think about a simple “dry” joint on even ONE CELL will be the end of your car and potentially thousands in other claims,being maimed after a EV blasts your legs with their “flame throwers!!’ M

You could just total a brand new EV in yards after even going over a speed-bump,poor connections using crap battery cells!!!!

BYD China sells excellent, affordable EVs. Sadly we'll never see them here.

You think emgine replacement is cheaper,why don't you check bmw, Mercedes-Benz, and audi, for new engine's. Its a total rip off, more than actual batteries,

Engines last MUCH longer than batteries.
@tonyn32273 күн бұрын
@GreenCarBuzz actually no. Batteries from tesla outlast any ice engine, proven fact. Other legacy brands is possible different story, my 2019 model 3 like new about 80k, miles. My daughter has 2013 model s with 150k, miles, runs on original battery. like a charm with hard any main, you can squak all you like
@kenik202314 күн бұрын
No. And here's why. The materials needed to produce one are expensive AF. I have to repair them for a living. I make about 150 per hour because demand/supply Programming Parts availability Sometimes insurance gets involved (and in A LOT of cases tries to sway the customer to buy another car instead of repairing.) If you had any idea what I go through. I love my Durango, when I work on any EV including Tesla I am so thankful for that thing.

I’m a mechanic and have owned a Tesla for 10 yrs/225,000 miles .. you may be able to fool some people here, but you can’t fool me. Fact is EVs are simple, powerful, reliable, cheap to run, and fun to drive! If you don’t drive much and/or like giving your money to oil companies .. no problem, buy a gas car.
@solarguy485014 күн бұрын
I have 225,000 miles on my 2015 Tesla 85D. It still has 87% battery remaining and looks/drives like new. I charge on solar, so my yearly fuel cost is under $400 driving about 20,000 miles/yr. I’ve had very little go wrong .. in fact, most EV drivers find repair/maintenance to be about 1/2 vs a gas car .. plus EVs seem to be lasting at least 50% longer! Add in the “fun” factor .. EVs are a hoot to drive since they have so much power, instant response, etc., and as a bonus are quiet, don’t smell, and don’t kill you and your family with toxic fumes. I’m a trained mechanic and a gear-head btw.

So if it's a 2015 Tesla your battery warranty on the traction drive is pretty well over. You better hope nothing goes wrong with it from now on cos a replacement is going to cost you around $20,000. All those savings you made compared to an ICE could go out the window overnight.
@dave365714 күн бұрын
Sounds good, glad that you enjoy yours, bravo. But look into what happens to your battery when it dies. Unlike metal engines in ICE vehicles they can’t be easily, or cleanly recycled.

How can you charge on solar? A home battery?

What did it cost?what's it worth today?😢
@solarguy485013 күн бұрын
@@onlyme972 It was crazy expensive, but this is the class of vehicle I was in the market for. As it turned out, my Tesla will last at least 1.5x longer than the Mercedes I was going to buy .. add in the $40,000 I saved on fuel already and I’m way, way ahead. Please feel free to drive a lame gas car though and give your money to oil companies. I fuel off of my own solar for 1/10 the cost of gas at my compound. Yes I’m a red-neck.
