Mexico's "Day of the Dead" is a vibrant celebration of life with some INSANE festivities all across the city! Mexico City knocked me off my feet with its parade, ofrendas, costumes, food, and more!
❁Please subscribe❁ www.youtube.co...
I've been celebrating Dia de Muertos in Mexico for years now. It's by far my favorite holiday in Mexico. This year, I traveled to CDMX (Mexico City) and it was SO MUCH FUN!! During these 5 days I experienced:
- Dia de Muertos desfile (the Day of the Dead parade)
- Elaborate ofrendas, aka altars to remember loved ones who have passed
- Extremely delicious food
- Xochimilco and seeing the famous Prehispanic axolote / axolotl
- Getting my face painted like a catrina
- Meeting new friends
- People watching on Avenida Reforma
- Pets dressed up in costume
- Going to Plaza Garibaldi to see mariachis
- Seeing lots of people dressed up in elaborate costumes
- All the festivities in the zocalo of Mexico City
- The Victoria Cempasúchil experience (marigolds!!)
- Art at Jardin del Arte Sullivan
- Mexican street food
Featuring my friends ‪@SpanishWithNate.‬ ‪@AndyGMenBerlín‬

Margaret Sullavan was a Irish/American film star from the 1930s 1940s and beyond. She besides having a singular beauty quality, was known for her unique personality and thus was a huge focus of public and fan attention. Her most driving appeal was her beauty. The movie “The Shop Around The Corner” is a good source to see two things, 1, her total appeal and singular personality, and 2, the fact that Ms Maddie not only shares a remarkable resemblance in beauty with her, but the personality uniqueness is uncanny. Maddy you are special don’t let life’s trials ever drag you down from a special place you hold by the very nature of who you are.

A bunch of cute dog content, Tianguis, and a good-looking man that speaks fluent Spanish. Score for Maddie. How convenient for such a wonderful adventure. You are quite in your element. I am so glad to see you are having fun and checking off the list of things you want to do. I am glad you got away safely. It could happen in any big city. There are so many in cities that you are bound to run across a disturbed individual from time to time especially at big celebrations. I have had a few things happen like that in the states. Being aware of those around you is always a good thing. I'd say you are pretty worldly, so I have no doubt you have great tips to stay safe.

I'm so sorry that happened to you Maddie! That's is so scary and you don't deserve that at all. When people ask uncomfortable questions I always ask "why do you want to know?". Also when I did visit alone and people asked if I came to Mexico by myself I lied and said i'm visiting with family. I slowly started to tell friends after about a month of knowing them and every single friend understood why I lied and didn't take it personal at all. The face paint that you wore was beautiful and your Spanish is soooo good. You inspire me to continue to learn and practice.

I do not believe the Airbnb incidents were accidental. You clearly do not know México. I do. You Americans can be so naive just like I was when I started traveling in Mexico alome at age 18. There has been a major push back towards Americans as of late and although I’ve survived it, survived driving alone through level 4 areas I would not recommend it. Do your research, learn Spanish and chances are you will be ok.

I am sorry to hear you were attacked, that is so scary to imagine. I am glad you are okay and thank you for the video. Also on behalf of the axolotl - Axolotls are strictly aquatic animals that spend their entire lives in water. They can, however, spend a short time outside of water because they can breathe air, but won't survive without water for long. Please if anyone has these as pets please keep them in the water. Also they should not be handled unless absolutely necessary as they are mainly cartilage and very susceptible to injury.

I am a also a single woman living alone with my cat in Rosarito Beach, BC, Mexico. Yes, I have to pay attention at all times. One time a lady bumped into me at a super market which wasn’t crowded (during covid). I turned toward her, and later discover my coin purse in my bag had be stolen. I was holding onto my phone. It was a set up. When I got to my car, the doors were unlocked. Then the security guard walked up and handed me my key. I was so flustered, I just drove away without reporting it. I also got my bag stolen in Costa Rica with it hanging on the arm of my chair. It had my passport in it and mysteriously I got my passport back. I carry a purse around my neck and hold onto it. They will not like the idea of you filming them. Even if a cop pulls you over, you take his picture and badge number just to be safe. I try not to give out too much information where I live. I pray for protection and ask angels to protect me. I ask for discernment, to see the underlying motives of a person. I have lived in Mexico for 3 years and have my permanent residency and soon dual citizenship. I’ve been lied to by men: other girlfriends and wives. I now play hard to get. If they have ulterior motives, they will get tired. You speak a lot more spanish than I do which is good. If that ask who I live with. I can respond, Oh, you want to meet my papa? Making them think he lives with me. I’m older so I’m going to start saying my Herman’s, my brother who is also deceased but he is here in spirit. I’m just not going to tell them that. I can say that and be referring to Day of the Dead, All Soul’s Day. My Dad and brother are still here with me. Don’t let them know where you live. Meet in public with other people around just like if you were on a dating site in U.S. My brother was going to come with me to meet you for dinner, but he had another commitment. I’m sure he’s doing something on the other side. I don’t know what but something. If I am feeling afraid, I get out of there. Like attracts like. Also, don’t drink more than one alcoholic drink if you are alone with a man. And, even with your girlfriends. I’ am more scared for you in the States than Mexico. In the States, I had more bad things happen. A shooting right outside my apartment the first week I lived in San Diego. I was drugged and dater raped at 17. On a trip to Hawaii, I was almost raped and killed. I was crying, saying no, I’ve got to get back to my friends. I jumped out of the car when he started gritting his teeth as he said, “i said Yes”. I jumped over a retaining wall on the mountain. My hands were slipping. I was going to die. I didn’t have the strength to pull my self up, I scream, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, help me. Right as my fingers slipped the hand of God gave me a boost up”. I ran to the mountain side and hid in the bushes. We must beware of any one on drugs, anywhere in the world because they are not in their right mind. Pay.attention and if you get an intuition, a funny feeling, get out of there fast. What happened to you easily can happen in San Diego, LA or Orange County. If anyone mentions drugs, I excuse myself and say I have a meeting to get to and leave. Stay away from any prostitution and drugs. Just the other day, I needed a place to stay because I wasn’t able to move into my new apartment. The was a hotel that had a sign 350 pesos, approx 19 US dollars. A good deal. I went to check it out. I wanted to see if the room was clean. I. Needed to be there 3 or 4 days. I asked if I could see the room. Very nice. Then I came down to the office and I was informed it was that price for 4 hours. And, if I wanted to stay all night it would be $50. I had a great laugh, and no I don’t want to hear people having sex keeping me awake all night. I prayed that they would let me into my new place early. Then I remembered a friend who rents out a room and has a roommate and spare bedroom. I called.her and she said she’d charge me $19 a night. I was meant to meet her roommate. She was moving also. We’ve hit it off and have gone out to dinner numerous times together, both going through hassles with moving. No matter what I ask for in my prayers, I ask for God’s will not my will.

Loved the "Maddie Movie"! I'm so sorry you experienced the backlash from the crazy guy at the end of it all. FYI, the "rapid fire 20 questions" is a very common occurance for me. I had it in India, Colombia, Philippines & I got it a LOT in Mexico. It can be really intimidating when they start with all the personal questions. A taxi driver in Costa Rica "was just curious" and asked me when was the last time I had s*x!!! Lol! I've questioned many people about why their fellow countrymen & women are so nosey about my business. Many say that it is very shocking for people in other countries to see single, financially independent women out there living a life. Over the years I have developed many strategies that deter their questions. Starting 1st & asking them about their lives in their coutry usually throws them for a loop. Telling them that "I am travelling with hungover friends who are still back at the hotel sleeping" works well. Or, pretending to text my friend, who is "waiting" for me at the destination also works. So far, so good. Take precautions. Be prepared with good answers & sometimes, just ask them why they are asking so many private questions. Sometimes, I even tell them that I don't answer personal questions about myself. You can play the, "I'm not in the mood for this s*it today" card at anytime. You don't always have to be sweet & accomodating. Sometimes, that is a woman's downfall. Anyway, looking forward to the upcoming videos. Keep moving. It keeps the vultures from having a place to land. Lol!

Sigue asi. Un abrazo.

Lastly.... I just read the hate message. As a criminal profiler well not exactly but I did Stay in a holiday inn express. Having been a subscriber since your early days I can only think this person is a friend messing with you. Obviously if this was a first time watcher who spent more time writing this crap than the blog itself is a special looser. Maddie is very articulate and has introduced her audience to a thousand different Mexican and Las Vegas experiences. She takes us with her on her journey. She does a great job.... see it doesn't make sense unless it's a friend messing... how can a person establish that critique in one sitting? 🤔

Very good presentation and video, as usual. You have mastered the pace, even though a bit long it doesn't feel like it. There's of course a lot of interesting things to see and do in Mexico city, I hope you're enjoying your time there and that rains don't disturb life much there (I lived for a while in Guadalajara and couldn't stand how everything seemed to come to a standstill in summer because of that). Here's in the western coast is very humid but no rains yet.

Hi Maddie! My family and I were also in Mexico City for the festivities and had so much fun! ❤ I’m glad you and your friend are safe. I am looking forward to your video on how you keep safe when traveling. My sister, mom, and I found ourselves being cautious and hyper vigilant after a few incidents. Our taxi driver was punched in the face as we were driving to Xochimilco. Once we arrived the staff there increased the price on us. And I think on the last night of us being in Mexico City, there was a man that made us feel uncomfy in the oxxo. I enjoyed my time there but I’m happy to be home. ❤

Wow, I didn't realize that Día de Muertos or 'Day of the Dead' was celebrated for four days (I thought it was three). Great video Maddie, I loved the lady who was informing about the plight of the Axolote, she really seemed to know her stuff. The celebrations were epic. I wanted to ask if you put your Day of the Dead make-up on yourself, but I found out in the video.

looks like you had an amazing time! I live in Toronto and occasionally have run ins with crazy people. I've had taxi drivers taking me home asking me weird things. So I never got out at my house, always a little a way and went on and on about the nice dinner my husband was making me (I am not married) because I was working late and my large dogs that I missed so much (I have rabbits). I think there are creeps all over the world and you just have to be smart about how you manage it
