If we sign Soto, what does that do to the Vladdy contract talks? How much better is Soto than Vladdy? Is he better at all? No good to sign Soto and lose Vladdy. I'D love to see an episode discussing this

100%. They are bending over backwards with pants down to sign soto when they already have a Soto and don't want to extend the one they have. Not to mention Soto and Vlad are friends and no doubt soto is seeing the treatment they are giving Vlad. I do't think they get Soto and Vlad leaves also, regardless if they try to extend him or not. Its clear they're waiting to see if they get soto first, and Vlad knows this and I'm sure doesn;t appreciate it.

Regarding the 700 million. I would assume, they will try to get Soto for less, presumably in the 600-650 range, and the excess 50-100 would then be used to increase the 25-30 million available. Soto alone isn't going to be enough. They would need to add Santander or Alonso,Fried or Burnes, Scott or Estevez. All 6 of those guys would be well in excess of 100 million AAV.

Soto fixes almost all the offence by himself. Soto and Bo back to normal definitely largely fixes it. They’ll still add something on top of him if they land him but it doesn’t need to be Santander or Alonso it can be a tier down they really need like 20-30HRs added as a team.

@JaysTalk89 The main point was, if Soto is added, that 25-30 million budget likely increases to nearly 100 to accommodate a full time DH, a SP and the best available RP, as the RP is what needs to be added the most if they want a deep run

They won't get Soto and a 25 million budget is not enough to fix this team. Next year will be the same as this year with a fire sale at the trade deadline followed by years of rebuilding. The window has already closed on this current team. They should have fired Shatkins before last season.
