@Kino: wow - thanks again. PS: the flat rocky desert land you will be riding through between Turbi/Moyale & Marsabit is known as "Diida Galgaluu" [=plains of darkness]. The same used to be part of a massive volcanic lake. The remaining part of that huge lake or an in-land-sea is today's Lake Turkana [ex-Lake Rudolf]. Still, Lake Turkana is a massive lake which extends for about 300kms north to south & has an average width of about 35kms (?). The lake is to your west & runs parallel to the road you are-on. This same desolate-looking desert landscape is a very rich archeological site where the bones of some of the earliest human ancestors have been found by famous archeologist such as Richard Leaky. Safe trip & all the best.

Yes, Ethiopia has also brought insecurities to our northern border but these reports don't circulate too much and most Kenyans except some in Marsabit have an overwhelmingly positive view about Ethiopia. The problem is our north eastern neighbour in most people's minds.

We seem to have created this impression and we are starting to get overrun especially by people from unstable neighbouring countries like Somaliya, Burundi, South Sudan. Do you know, the territory until Marsabit was part of Ethiopian territory? The British acquired it after signing a treaty in which they pledged not to invade Ethiopia, thus ensuring Ethiopia's sovereignty.
