There's Oromo Kenya and Oromo Ethiopia,Maasai Kenya and Maasai Tanzania,Luo Kenya and Luo Uganda,Somali Kenya and Somali Somalia,South Sudanese same thing,these people were separated by colonial boarders but are of same family...The breakfast you took come with red beans.. ​@@rashayaphiri7066 - yes, there are some Oromo tribes/communities such as the 'Warday/Orma-Oromos' still living in Southern Somalia aka in the lower reaches of the 'Juba River' [in Somali language] OR the 'Ganaallee River' [in Oromo language]. @But, many of these Oromos have now been forced-assimilated into the dominant Somali identity; just like the Bantus of Southern Somalia which have also been forced assimilated into the dominant Somali culture/language/identity. Much of what is today's Southern Somalia facing Kenya - aka Juba/Ganaallee River Valley all the way to the Indian Ocean coast - used to be an Oromo country too & home to the Warday/Orma-Oromos & other Oromo clans/tribes too. Islam also played a major role in the "eradication" of the indigenous Oromo tradition/identity in Southern Somalia. Oromos are a classic example of what would happen to state-less & not very assertive [militarily] tribes in Africa, despite their large numbers (Oromos are one of the numerically largest tribes in Ethiopia, Horn of Africa & Africa). In Ethiopia, the Oromos are totally dominated by the traditional king-making & orthodox habesha/Abyssinian tribes [Amhara & Tigre]. In Kenya, the Oromos are dominated by the Bantus of upland/highland Kenya who had been empowered by the British. In Somalia, Oromos are dominated or have been made to disappear by the dominant Somalis partially empowered by their Italian & British colonial masters too [Italian Somalia & British Somalia/Somaliland]. In a sense, "Oromos are the Kurds [Kurdistan] of the Horn of Africa". Bye.

@Kino: good to see you moving again. @PS: your grasp of the local inter-clans/tribal feuds & politics is amazing too. Not many tourists show much interest in issues like those ones. Yes, there are several clans & sub-clans of the Oromo/Borana-Oromo BOTH in Ethiopia & Northern+Eastern Kenya. @The young cook is member of the Gabra-Oromo clan. The Gabra-Oromo are closely-related to the larger Borana-Oromo. Basically the Borana & Gabra speak the same dialect of the Oromo language. @BY the way, the tarmacked/asphalted highway you are on was finally completed NOT by Kenyans/Africans but by the industrious Chinese. Hence the sight of the Chinese & Kenyan flags painted side-by-side on a hotel wall in "Bubissa"[there are always some reasons for things to happen - smile]. Kenyan rulers & politicians were accused of using that road project as their "milk-cow" & embezzled/stole much of World Bank-provided funds/aid money to build the highway. This highway was meant to be part of the much-hyped 'Cairo-to-Cape-Town Trans Continental Highway'. @The Chinese use a different model of funding to Africa when compared to western countries [EU, USA, World Bank, etc]. The Chinese DO NOT give aid money directly to the reliably-corrupt African rulers - unfortunately. Instead, the Chinese use their own builders & contractors to build vital infrastructures such as roads & railways in Kenya, Ethiopia & the rest of Africa. For example, the new Mombasa-to-Nairobi railway PLUS the equally new Djibouti-to-Addis Ababa railway were BOTH financed & built by the Chinese. And, 'Djibouti' is the only sea-port used by the now landlocked Ethiopia due to its endless wars with itself or its own provinces [eg: Ethiopia's loss of Eritrea/Red Sea ports after decades-lasting (half a century) civil wars between Ethiopia proper & its ex-province of Eritrea - then Ethiopia's only exit to the Red Sea]. The part of this same highway BUT located within Ethiopia (Awassa>Dilla>Yabello>Moyale) was financed by the World Bank but was built by an Italian & Israeli road-building companies/contractors. The Italian road-building contractors built the Awassa-to-Yabello section. The Israeli road-building company built the Yabello-to-Moyale section of this highway within Ethiopia. But, the Italian & Israeli contractors completed the Ethiopian section of that highway in 1974 G.C. AKA some 50 years/half-a-century ago! The Kenyans completed their section only about 2 years ago in 2021 G.C. Even then, it was the enterprising Chinese, NOT the Kenyans who finally completed their section of this highway! Oh Africa! Oh, "Bubissa" is the windiest place in Kenya. In-fact & literally, the name of that place "Bubissa" (Oromo)= the windy one/place. Wish you a safe cycling & best wishes.

Your information is all correct. However, don't be fooled by the different approach the Chinese use as opposed to the West. The Chinese are building their new global silk route and all the infrastructure they are building in Kenya and anywhere else in East Africa is a part of that trade network that they plan to take over in the coming years/decades.

I give you a HINT: many are starving &/or trying to hawk sad-looking goods or begging to be able to feed their many children & extended families! @Many of the younger employees in those projects, had embarked-on a dangerous journey of crossing the vast & nasty Sahara Desert & the treacherous waters of the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe in the hope of making a living that might feed them & their families back in Africa too. Of course, most of the Africans who embark on such most dangerous endeavor end-up dead in the Sahara Desert, killed &/or enslaved by Arabs & eaten by the sharks of the Mediterranean Sea. Only a few lucky ones manage to reach Europe & even less get to settle in Europe & be able to help themselves & their starving families back in Africa. BASICALLY, AFRICANS/BLACKS CANNOT RUN A COUNTRY SUCCESFULLY. AFRICANS/BLACKS ARE PRIMED TO FAIL .. AGAIN & AGAIN! THUS, IT IS ABOUT TIME - IF NOT ALREADY LONG OVERDUE - THAT AFRICANS/BLACKS RECONGNISED THIS SIMPLE FACT & SEEK ALTERNATIVE WAYS OF MAKING THEIR COUNTRIES MORE PRODUCTIVE & ATTRACTIVE TO INVESTORS. OR, THEY SHOULD ASK THEIR EX-COLONAIL MASTERS FOR A FAVOUR TO RE-COLONISE THEM OR THEIR COUNTRIES!! Marsabit is a regular town with all amenities. It's quite cold and misty most mornings and evenings. Very green with red fertile soil. Always wondered , it's like an oasis in the desert. Learned today it's elevated and has a high altitude.

As a Kenyan, I am amazed to see that Northern Kenya has some greenery and good roads. More than 80% of Kenyans live in towns and cities that developed along the 100-year-old colonial Kenya-Uganda MGR railways that the British empire constricted on the south of the country from Mombasa to Kisumu via Nairobi. Historically we have always been made to think that Northern Kenya is inhospitable lawless desert therefore the majority of Kenyans never even think of travelling towards that direction.

That’s right ! All we’ve heard is droughts and banditry ..good to see all that’s happening there . And the people are very friendly as most Kenyans are, now we need the LAPSET project up and running….SGR and consistent electricity so that they can develop at par with the rest of the country
