I think it gives them a real bond. Reacher has never pressed the issue with her. He simply takes her as she is. No touchy ? Cool. She feels safe and comfortable around him because he’s never tried to “fix” her. He’s never questioned her. He’s never made her feel like there is something wrong with her.

I recall this being part of the books as well. It's just part of her character. I don't remember if it was ever expanded upon in the series but I never felt it needed to be either. Some people just don't like to be touched. For various reasons.

There is a scene in "Without Fail" - Neagley's first appearance in the Reacher saga - late in the book, where Reacher and Neagley are sitting on a hotel bed and she very slowly, an inch at a time, reaches out and takes his hand. They sit like that for a while, then she leaves. Earlier in the book, another woman, who is working with Reacher, observes to him that Neagley is clearly in love with him. In "Bad Luck and Trouble" - the book - Dixon speculates to Reacher that Neagley might have been abused as a child.

OMG! The producers do not want Neagley to be seen as beautiful, but it's her strong body and respect that makes her very beautiful. In real life, if you saw her walking down the street with that gown on or without it, she would appear beautiful. I’ve only seen the first episode thus far, but if Neagley is asexual (“I don’t find anyone attractive”) then she’s an example of good representation. The thing about characters like that (LGBTQ+ characters specifically) is that a lot of writers like making their sexual orientation their entire character. So if Neagley is asexual, then that’s great. But the fact it doesn’t do anything for the story is even better, because why would it? She’s a character who’s asexual, not an asexual character.

As a show only watcher, I haven't noticed any "point" or payoff really. It's just a character quirk. I don't mind it. It adds a little something to her character and presents opportunities for throwaway lines that could be funny or awkward.

Reacher points out that Neagley has haptephobia, which is a fear of being touched. When Sinclair asks if the condition is as a result of assault, Reacher responds, "She says she was born with it." Excerpt from a Reacher wiki. I don't read the books and I don't want to go through all of it to see if it adds anything to the story. But bottom line is that is a trait written by the author himself. Whether it serves a purpose or not, you can research I guess.

I have read every Lee Child Reacher book which I think spans 23 books if not more side and short stories, Neagley is the Female equal, of Reacher and they both know it, I have a female friend I have known and trusted for 30 odd years, who is 1of2 executors of my younger Bro's will, She's my Neagley

it happened at some point in season 1 where she didnt want to shake someones hand. i think it happened once and then it was never relevant again. now we got new 3 episodes for season 2 and i have noticed 3 scenes where its mentioned again. once at the new age technologies where she wont shake the lady's hand. then in the bar where those guys tried to attack reacher and neagley and she screamed "DONT TOUCH ME" which also seems weirdly forced. obviously nobody wants to get put in a chokehold by a stranger.

The actor is not 6'5", the character "Reacher" is. Alan is only 6'2" tall, so you might notice the camera work. Much of the time he is being shot from below to make him look more imposing and whomever he is having a dialogue with is being shot from above to make that person look smaller.

I liked the scene in the Officer’s Club where Reacher pushes his chair back from the table and slowly stands up. This is intentional as the slow rise out of the chair is intended to emphasize Reacher’s size, especially his height. Note that Reacher stands about 4” taller than the guy who is threatening to “drag them all out on their asses”. I don’t know if the actor (Ritchson) ever stood on an elevated platform to visually enhance his height on camera. I do know that it is rumored that Tom Cruise frequently stands on old wooden Coca Cola crates in scenes where other actors - particularly tall characters - are in scene with him. I think Cruise stands at 5’6” and either he or the production crew don’t want to push a Danny DeVito image.

They're not 'shocking' reasons - the /actual/ reason(s) is (are) never given in the books - the sole canon sources. They're /made up/ reasons for a clickbait video title. The /actual/ reason could range from a germ phobia, to a childhood trauma, or /any/ point in between. Neagly’s history is never really explained in the books, only really hinted at, and as so anyone’s conclusion to she is how she is actually technically correct, but also technically wrong!…… Lee Child , the writer left this for the reader to interpret……. ….it looks like the tv producers are going to do the same!……though saying that lee is a producer too. Lee wrote the two characters as having an understanding and respect for each other and would know what the other would do in tense situations. It dose look like Neagly is going to appear a lot more in tv than she ever appeared in the books…."which currently is good. All the book readers always want more stories involving Neagly.
