I would really like to know how the dad says he will make it up to OP, not that he can. Missing a major milestone in your child’s life like their graduation cannot be made up. Graduation is not something daddy dearest can make up. I like it when step parents include the step kids, mine never did with me, but OPs dad has taken it way too far. Guy needs to learn balance instead he decided to ditch his kid. I’m sorry the step daughter doesn’t have her own dad but that doesn’t mean op should loose his dad. Especially after loosing his mom. Dad and his wife are major AHs.

NTA Op’s dad is a terrible dad especially if he’s choosing his stepdaughter’s award ceremony over his son’s graduation. This is an important one time thing. Award ceremonies can happen again and again but a graduation ceremony cannot. He will not be able to see his child again after he leaves to college because he’s too busy trying to get his bachelors degree and will hardly see them.

Yeah this is absolutely ridiculous. Graduation only happens once for high school. It's a HUGE achievement! Some people don't even graduate!!! And I get how that feels because 1) my dad didn't come to mine (thank fuck, that was right around the divorce time and I don't like him at all) and 2) my bff at the time said she'd come to my graduation (I went to hers and brought her a few gifts btw) and then said no like the day of graduation (we even offered to have her ride with us) because her sister was there (the one that was literally moving there along with her mom). It still bothers me to this day that she didn't even care to go or anything. I can only imagine that OP felt the same way, if not worse. Dad is 1000/10 the AH

NTA. Sounds like his dad has been a lost cause for years. OP just needs to focus on moving out. Hopefully he has a job and has been saving for moving out. After that no need to communicate with his dad for awhile. His father probably won't notice anyway if his child move out. OP's dad is so focused on being a dad to his step daughter that he forgot he has a biological child that he's been neglecting. On another note the jar with the glitter is so pretty.
