My late wife befriended a very feral cat back in 2008 or thereabouts, he turned up in the winter covered in icicles so we put a cat flap in my shed for him,he was black so she named him Roger, we put a cat flap in my glasshouse and he lived in there, when she was terminally ill with a brain tumour she wrote me a letter which said remember to feed the hedgehogs and look after Roger. Which I would have done anyway,I went out this morning to get the hedgehog camera and found Roger dead in the back garden which he never left. So he’s now buried there, just a feral cat to some but I will miss him. You’re the first to know sorry I just needed to say something to someone.

So very sorry for the loss of lovely sweet little Jess....my very favourite canal dog!! It's a hard one to get over. We lost our elderly cat just over a year ago and still can't think of him without crying. I know it sounds strange, maybe to some people, but I have grieved more over my animals than I have people. I am so sorry for your loss of Jess. I do understand that sudden unexpected loss. I have been there and it is gut wrenching to make that decision to say goodbye; because there is no other choice. I thought my heart was being ripped out of my chest. It has been over a year and my heart still aches when I look at her picture. Yes animals grieve too. It takes a lot of time. I knelt down and managed to pat little Jess. We were the couple Fran helped in the spring at Grindley Brook at the water point because we hadn't the correct fitting for the tap. It was raining lightly and I managed to stroke Jess's head. Still have the memory...
