My stomach had butterflies as I listened to the siren and watched the water rise. Tackling the locks was also nerve wracking to watch. Speaking of good semaritans. Two years ago, we took the motorcycles to the UK… from Germany. Now although I am German, I do have to admit that for foreigners we may seem a little on the unfriendly side… for certain when it comes to our service culture. We have never experienced such an unbelievably friendly people as in the UK. It began in a pub in St. Margret’s Bay, where we said we were a German invasion of „two“ and ended at the Harley dealer in Maidstone. Across the board friendly faces for the „Krauts“. I tip my hat to you guys.

. Wow. Let there be no doubt I recognize and empathize with the concerns and worries you present in this episode. But, simultaneously I must say how much I was thrilled to be with you on this. The ice made the narrowboat seem so inviting. The rain on your windows made it seem like such a refuge. The downpour made your snug domocile into a fortress. Your ventures out on your errands took on the quality of daring, the struggles with the locks portrayed drama. The fire in your little stove compelled one to draw into your warm place just a little closer. The smoke from the little chimney bespoke hospitality within. Norwegian socks and a fresh loaf of bread seemed to mean so much more. I, for one have gone back to watch this entire video again and I want to thank you for the excellence with which you have told this story. . This is hard, hard nature and where there is refuge from it, there is exhilaration in it. I wish for you aver safety and security, but I also hope your mindfulness will continue to embrace and convey such episodes in the way you so wonderfully embraced and told the tale of this one.

@@themindfulnarrowboat Makes me think of the people in North Carolina recently, after their weather was manipulated causing those storms, just so they can drive out the population and get their hands on all that lithium for mining to make batteries for EVs etc. Some people refused to leave their homes, and just hang on for dear life because if they left, the government would just prevent them coming back. It's going on around the world sadly.

God that siren reminds me of when we were moored in Todmorden in 2020 and that siren went off, it’s very eerie, we were ok on the boat but Todmorden flooded and we had to rescue a boat next to us as flood water was pouring off the road onto it. Hi Vanessa… we had Storm Bert before you which flooded the pound I’m moored on, crt closed navigation to boaters saying it was too dangerous and to check on ropes at all times. The canal actually flooded the towpath where I’m moored and it became impossible to actually step off the boat. Finally Bert moved North and the levels started to drop, I’ve since moved to get water and spotted a sunken boat halfway across the channel, I managed to squeeze past it and arrived at the water point, I contacted crt to report the vessel. I’m moored on a stretch that has many farm fields either side which in heavy rain drain into the canal turning it dark brown and raising the levels. So far so good it has improved over 2 days, hope you find safety take care 😊

Amazing how a few weeks ago you were trying to navigate through shallow, nearly empty canals. I couldn’t believe you pushed on with that tremendous amount of water behind the locks. The narrow boat life became too stressful for one blogger I was following and I couldn’t quite understand why. Now I have a greater understanding of what you go through and can see why his nerves couldn’t take it anymore. Good evening Vanessa - I hope you’re okay and keeping well - as you know all.about my health issues ,well now they’re trying to get me into hospital as I’m really poorly but I’m trying to put it off ~ the thought of spending four weeks in hospital is not very appealing also my mum and dad live quite away from me ~ so visiting would be difficult - they are trying to get me into a hospital near to where they live but ice proving a bit difficult especially coming up to December ~ anyway I know I will be fine - I’ve just been given my medication so I’m now going to settle down and watch your brilliant vlog/video ~ sending loads of love and hugs as always ~ from my home to your home ~ Xxx Xxx

You really are a gutsy bird, Vanessa! We forget how powerful and heavy water is, until it gushes in that wild, torrential way. Well done too, for remaining so calm in a crisis - Zeph was looking very anxious, and was looking up to you for reassurance that you would both be okay - dogs really do absorb the anxiety of their human pals, so even though you might have felt the panic rising within you, you did not let Zeph see this, so she kept calm, too. Thank God your husband was there to help you! I'm sure you helped to keep him calm, too! Your bugs sketch was beautifully detailed - I love sketching with coloured pencils, too - you can get subtle effects just by laying down dry pigments - much easier than the harder to control, messy, wet pigments of water colours - I'm sure you've had enough of water in the last few days! I hope it snows for you next week - why, you ask? Because i would love to see you sketch the geometric marvel of a snowflake - magnified by 1000!
