My friend owns a local disc golf shop here in Minnesota and Prodigy sells pretty well. Not as well as Innova or MVP, but probably ahead of most of the other brands. A lot of beginners come in and buy the Prodigy beginner pack. Also D3's seem to be a pretty big seller as well.

My bitch about Prodigy (which is way less than the drama here): I ordered two of the Waco Sheriff Rippit discs the day they were released and both came in super ugly - bland colors and both with a flat white stamp. They were nowhere near as vibrant and shiny as the advertised discs. As I was hoping one would be a wall ornament, I wrote to them asking for an exchange and the response was basically sorry, but you get what you get. So yeah, not a scandal but definitely a disappointing experience.

I ordered an F7 last year that was just as stable as a Champion Teebird. I called them to exchange it and they told me to pound sand they "Can't exchange any disk that has been thrown". Zero attempt to help me out or make it right. Other DG companies have gone way above and beyond when they didn't even have to. It was the last dollar Prodigy will ever get from me. I wanted to try multiple versions of putter plastics last winter with Gateway and called them for advice on which ones to buy to try and I ordered 4 of the same mold, they sent me 6 different plastics along with a personal note. They now have multiple spots in my bag with backups on the shelf.

Im over playing in tournaments. The TD's are terrible at being transparent about how the money is being spent, and the amount of discs that i would never bag are endless. Ive never once gotten anything in a player's pack that was worth the tourney fee. Why not use all of the money for payouts and shop credit for AM's? The shops would benefit, and the players would get discs they wont just throw in the trash. Id rather play a cash game with some buds.

I don't play tourneys anymore because I played 1 in 2022 (2days,3 rounds) 2 dudes shaved strokes on multiple holes. Two clearly did not give a damn about the in the circle one foot rules. And another was straight up drop kicking trees (very entertaining). Was not what I was expecting for sure. I thought there would be alot more sportsmanship. I called out first dude on stroke shaving. He said he made a mistake (sure bud). Second time I just was done. I was trying to play in a tournament. Not be an official. I would be cool with a every now and again. If I have to call someone out every round it's a problem .

Some of our local tournaments have a tip the TD section which i always happily pitch in for. They are a massive undertaking which is seldom held with gratitude. When it comes to siphoning money out of the community. This isnt a new concept but it doesnt last long. Receipts are an easy thing to ask for and or present. Over-valuing players packs is where its done most so that way they stay pdga compliant. People arent dumb. If its a trend people stop coming.

I have played in a few of Matt’s tournaments in the last year and I’ll say this when it comes to the payout issue he seems to just reuse the same “About this tournament” post. So my thoughts on the bait and switch is he forgot to update it before posting for the finale. He allowed me to sign up for a tournament day of and even waived my PDGA fee for not being current. He has been nothing but kind to me, but I have had friends play in his events and had issues such as spray painted OB lines being removed by participants, and inconsistencies with payouts and trophies. His players packs are also just ok. The Star series I played last year he gave us a putter and one of the New Jerseys which is really uncomfortable.

Sexual misconduct charges can be weaponized against people who didn't commit anything of the sort, and given there were no criminal charges filed or even a court hearing on the issue suggests we should give the benefit of the doubt here on this issue. I've never understood the mentality that a tournament should payout as much or more than it takes in. It puts TDs in a position to either fund an event out of pocket or play funny money. I've participated in some local leagues or one off events that were not PDGA sanctioned. They were for fun. No profit motive. No onerous rules about the event was run. The PDGA seems to want to take that basic and make it so onerous that local sanctioned events are near impossible. I don't play an event for payout for last place. If I'm playing AN, I have zero expectation of a return on investment. I pay xx$ to go to a theme park, I don't expect to get paid for being there. This payout mentality in disc golf is weird.

I’ve played the Prodigy star series in question and know the TD in question. It’s a pretty well run series on some great courses and the TD does a good job of procuring good players packs. Having said that he’s not just a TD running Prodigy events and pocketing dirty money like you insinuated could be happening. I think what happened here is he used the verbiage from the last star series(Prodigy logo is a star that’s where it comes from) and they used to do top 40% and he probably got a smaller budget this time around. You can’t cut pro payouts so doing the AM side was probably the only place he could make those cuts without being out of regulation. I’m not a Prodigy stan, but Matt runs a solid event and though parts of this could have been handled better, it’s been blown well out of proportion. Prodigy has done some crappy things, but overall this series has not been one of them in my experience.(and yes I finished in the range that would have gotten payout at 40% but not at 25%)

@wildrunsdiscgolf
@wildrunsdiscgolf Ай бұрын
I think the main issue was the lack of transparency. If you don’t make a significant effort to let players know what they are getting when things change, then you’re not doing your due diligence as a TD.
@nathanwilson7929
@nathanwilson7929 Ай бұрын
@@wildrunsdiscgolf That's my point, I don't think anything did change. I don't see any screenshots of his sign in with the promise of those payouts. I think there was assumptions made on the players part, or was looking at the wrong event. I knew the star series was coming up, and I knew the first event was at Edwards, and so I went about trying to track that event on disc golf scene so I knew when the sign up was going to happen cuz I thought it was going to fill up quickly. Up quickly. I made the mistake of following last year's event. It looks identical except for the year. Which you can still search on disc golf scene and see plainly that it says the 40% cut. You can also see the finale has no such listing.

@@brekkoh they aren't breaking the rules. The finale in the star series last year didn't have a added prize support like the previous events. The finale was invite only. He had to qualify the previous events in order to get an invite to this event. When I looked up for the star series this year, I made the mistake of seeing last year's event, because it happens at the same exact location this year,. I'm pretty certain he made the mistake of looking up last year's event and assuming it had the same payout. But this year's prize added was to the top 25 finishes. To be clear, for a C tier, you're only required to give back 85% of the value back to the players on the am side. The two discs alone that you get equals 75% or more of that value of the $40 you paid in. In addition to that you had green fees. Then you had four additional free ctps. And on top of that had additional gift card payouts to the top 25 finishes. From what it looks like, he just assumed that there is a 48% payout on the finale last year. Which is the first part of this entire video. And as someone who has signed up and played for the last two events in the Star series this year, I saw no 40% promise. I've only seen the 25% additional, which I interpreted only as the pro side, which came to a surprise to me when I got $15 gift card in my email for finishing in the top 25 in my division.
