I wonder how many village kids there look at you and tell themselves, thats what i want to do when i grow up. I sincerely hope that such a thought gets the opportunity. Flying was by far the greatest chapter of my life.

Hard enough for American kids to go through PPL, IFR, CPL, get up to 500hrs and get an A&P, plus all the missionary training, and raise sponsorship, let alone a village kid in PNG.

I do this all the time, getting kids out to play with park flyers. Nothing gets kids more excited when they get to explore simple flight by making little adjustments made to a crash worthy model, then they'll deny their hungry when parents call them in, just to fly it one more time. So I bet if a huge box of Styrofoam park gliders show up, the village goes nuts. And maybe a few rolls of tape to keep them in somewhat one piece. Cheers

@@hydra_ger not really. It's all solar powered, so power is completely free. They're probably wanting to build buildings in their village, which isn't going to cost anything either. As for it being complicated, idk what you're even talking about, those small saws aren't even complicated. They'll need replacement blades every now and then, and fix it with spare parts when needed. Dumb westerner thinks that a sawmill is going to make things harder for a village who had to use hand tools 😂 the amount of time they're going to save is ungodly. Go out and try to cut down a tree and make boards by hand, then come back and tell me it's too complicated and costly for unknown reasons. Unless you think these people are just dumb villagers, and that they can't read a manual.

Imagine how happy the dudes of that tribe, the ones who are responsible for turning trees into a usable product and/or a product for sale. The amount of back breaking work this machine has extinguished ( not to forget their productivity will rise if they choose to) is one reason they're cheering when the machine rolls out. Great clip, love the job you're doing and filming it for others to get a glimpse into the people and their country of PNG. It makes think a bit like this is part of a doco, showing the remaining people's of earth still living in the ways humanity have all lived like once in their distant past. A very interesting insight ito the PNG weather, forecasts and the conditions you actually experience and have to deal with. The other day I flew a simulation of your trip from Goroka to Norambi with roughly simular cloud conditions . Given your experience of not trying the Norambi Gap on your approach I tried it and all went well until I got through into the valley only to find the southern slopes pretty much clear of cloud but the northern slopes were covered in low cloud and ground hugging mist! That rectangular patch of dirt just before the airstrip and the airstrip threshold were visible but that was all. Several circuits later nothing had changed, didn't seem to much point in waiting it out at SImbari even though it was clear so it was back to Goroka without landing. So frustrating! Gave a real insight to the frustrations you must experience if a landing has to be abandonded.

VHF waves are only effective along a line of sight between a transmitting and receiving antenna. As such, they work primarily for short and medium distances. HF radio waves, on the other hand, are reflected off the ionosphere. This greatly increases their travelling distance, making them suitable for longer ranges.
