Just googled what a placenta looks like because I realized at 29 weeks I had not seen a real one (except for drawings, but there's a big difference between a color drawing and a color photo...) - it's definitely gross looking, but SO wild and amazing that it has been feeding and taking care of my baby for months now

I'm so glad you've made this video. Usually, I watch all your stuff even though I've had three babies and am not planning any future pregnancies. This one, I had to stop a few minutes in because it reminds me so much of my middle daughter's traumatic birth. I needed this video before May 2010 when I was surprised by many of the things you discuss here. Because of how scary that birth was, my youngest was delivered in 2016 in the next county over at the adult hospital physically attached to our region's children's hospital with their level 1 NICU. We had the resuscitation team in the room at delivery (and I was given the largest delivery room on the floor to accommodate that plan). It wasn't in time to help me, but mine is far from the last traumatic delivery. It's good to have the resources for future mamas to be best prepared.

Oh gosh I am sorry to hear this. I hope you find healing. Thank you for the kind words
@tinkeramma Жыл бұрын
@mamanursetina Healing came in a flood of newly delivered adrenaline and emotion when my youngest was born screaming with a healthy set of lungs. Her middle sister was not a healthy child and there are some rare genetics in play. I was prepared for my baby to be unwell, to need all the resources, to spend months in the NICU even as a full-term baby. I'd done the footwork and paperwork to prepare for my middle daughter's daily medical care needs if I was in the NICU with baby. It never occurred to me that I could have a healthy baby--even though I'd done that with my oldest. That youngest baby turns 8 in March. She's an amazing kid and she brings my heart so much joy. There's healing in that too.

Thank you for your very informative videos!!!! ❤ Love love love them! ❤ With multiple births does the birth of placentas take roughly the same amount of time up to 45mins? Or is it more prolonged? Also, does the dosage of oxytocin administered increase?
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
Honestly it’s usually like 5 minutes if that. 45 minutes would be fairly extreme in the time spectrum. I haven’t found that the delivery of the placenta takes shorter with people who have already had a baby though I haven’t been paying much attention! And the oxytocin dose is the same regardless of how long the birth takes ☺️

Such wonderful information! Had my son at 35+3, and there was an actual medical crowd in the room! 😂 my doc and nurses, his doc and nurses, there were probably 15-18 staff in the room at one point just making sure both of us were a-okay during birth and the first moments postpartum. I gave birth in a hospital birth center.

I wish informed consent was a thing. I have had 4 babies and after the first with pitocin I hated it and did not want it again but wasn't given the choice. By my 4th baby everything happened naturally and as I was in that moment after baby came out they injected pitocin right into my IV and immediately I tasted metal and lost my breath I was so mad I asked what did you just do to me? Everything was going fine. I hate unnecessary intervention without informed consent.
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
I’m so sorry. I always talk to my patients about the standard oxytocin injection well before the birth. It needs to be consented! And if people want to refuse it that’s their choice as well.

This happened with my first. I had expressed several times that I didn't want pitocin, but they gave it to me anyway. Have had all my subsequent babies at home to preserve autonomy.

Yeah I've never consented for any of my births for anything given , aside from epidural, to me or baby. In fact, after my youngest son was born, my husband saw them giving him a shot and he asked what they had just given him?! And their response was just "it's standard practice". 🙄

Could you make a video about why people are avoiding c-sections? I checked statistics, and the rates of emergency ones are so high, that scheduled one seems a better option. No risks of having major surgery after being overtired, no dealing with double recovery - from vaginal and c-section at the same time, predictability and control over the process.

Is it true that traction can increase chances of having bits of placenta retained?
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
I haven’t looked into it so I can’t give you an evidence based answer. I would think if the provider isn’t experienced absolutely that traction can be to much too soon and can result in the cord shearing off the placenta before the placenta comes out
@darla7911 Жыл бұрын
I didn’t even know i delivered the placenta until I felt it come out. My doctor pressed on my stomach a few times while baby was still on me was about 5 minutes. One thing I wished I would have asked to look at it. I had an episiotomy which I recover from great. I had an epidural so my pain levels were good just felt tugging when she was doing the stitches but the initial cut I didn’t feel anything. Very thankful we chose to go that route because she said I could’ve possibly torn if we didn’t.

How is the placenta delivered in a c-section. I don't remember. Do they yank it or? Baby had to go to the NICU so I didn't get skin to skin until the next day.

As someone considering this journey what is your advice in overcoming the fear of the pain associated with contractions and childbirth?
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
Be prepared for it the best you can and be flexible. Find good evidence based sources of information and use those as a conversation piece to get your providers input on it and start a discussion. Make a birth preferences and then also look into a birth preference list for the scenario you don’t want to happen so your mind is open to it.

Pitocin video please. It's all standard practice like you have to get it and things aren't as good if you dont. But I've heard nothing but horror stories about pitocin so i really don't want it, don't want the pain or fear. So if I have to get it in the future I want as much knowledge as possible to help & not have added pain from fear. (I heard that birth pain was manageable until pitocin was given then it was so bad that people had no choice but to get the undesired Epidural to ease the pain and screw over their birth plan) (side note, i have heard some bad but mostly positive stories about Epidural, usually that it was such a relief after the dreaded pitocin)

Pitocin made labor into pure torture. I could tolerate and manage the pain through breathing until then. So, in my case I am to be given pitocin i will get an epidural. I've had two natural births and two with an epidural.
@harringt10010 ай бұрын
It sounds as if you're confusing pitocin given in the first stage to augment labor (is said to make contractions more painful) with pitocin given in the third stage to prevent hemorrhage (more the content of the video.) I would say in both instances informed consent should be sought, but the risk-benefit analysis for each are pretty different.
