They never threw anything away. I grew up with people that had that mind set. People who never had enough kept what they had and repurposed everything they could. Our house didn't look anything like that. It was clean and organized, but the attic and basement were stuffed. My Mom said it was because of growing up during the depression. I think they probably got old and feeble and didn't have anyone to help. It is the end of an era for sure. Thank you for risking body and soul to share this sad place with us.

Holy crap! And I thought I had trouble letting stuff go! I guess I don't feel so bad about my clutter now. Wow! That was both sad and maddening to see that anyone lived in those conditions. I know extreme hoarding is a mental issue, but it's still shocking to witness the result. I've been in some abandoned houses that were also filled with junk. At first I thought the place was simply used as a dumping ground for other peoples garbage, but then I learned about hoarding disorders and realize now that it was most likely the last owner who accumulated all of it. It's crazy to think of someone filling a room to the ceiling with stuff, and then continue to gather more things to fill other spaces. They'll never use what's there because it's buried, so the items become useless, and the house unlivable. It doesn't make sense, but that's mental illness.

It's extremely sad. I started to work with many people from all different backgrounds back in 1988. Literally every kind of soul from special needs adult's, physically challenged youth's, seniors, dementia, youth at risk etc. My conclusion is that what we witnessed in this video is all stemming from trauma in one way or another. The medical system calls it 'mental health'. When one truly chooses to go down the rabbit hole of the 'why' the many struggle with mental health issues...it really is a painful eye opening experience. Humanity has suffered hugely unfortunately in ways that were intended by some of the most evil people ever. I've witnessed a lot. There are just some things I saw in my job that I can't un-see. Tragic.

The kids could have gone before the hoarding became a problem for them, and whoever was hoarding everything just did the same with what they didn't take with them, and probably eventually died there. It would be interesting to know what really happened, and might make a good follow-up video. :)

Had a sister -in -law that did that with cats, and she stopped working, her husband, (my brother) had to do laundry, clean, shop , she stopped Cooking, but he still worked. I am so glad I came back and watched this. I actually tried watching two times before and fell asleep because of the pain meds I am taking. I fell and rammed a mattress rail into my left ribs and chest area. I am so glad I kept this is my watch list. Yes the last item was a commercial washer. That piece of furniture you liked was a victorian hall tree and yes worth money. My opinion about this place is to begin with the people who lived there were poverty stricken and more than likely the father probably got a job he really cared about at a bowling alley but didnt make much money but was able to buy for the children. They more than likely was already holding on to things because of living a hardship life (holding things back for future) I can also see that something happened a major turn of events. Divorce or more than likely lost children and wife in a tragic way. Who ever it was that was left behind was living without power (using oil lamps) no heat (using kerosene heaters) and no running water (using Bottled water) I believe the one left behind had a mental break and was hanging onto everything they held dear in memory of happy times. I had family who raised 4 kids in house with walls so filthy and piles of stuff everywhere. When the father worked he would buy his kids everything he could but they were still poverty stricken. They didn't have a fine home just a lot of hand me downs and stuff raided from goodwill boxes. That was the way they lived but they were happy and the kids were loved. I can see a similar lifestyle for this family but there was a tragic twist that happened....you can see it and it's really sad. I have lived without power, running water and using kerosene heater but my home was clean. Who ever was living there was alone when it got really really bad. I would look at the online county property maps locate the house on the Plat and find the owners name. Google the name and see what comes up. You may find something tragic. Also if it's something that happened a while back you can search the name through newspapers.com and see if any articles come up. If you do search out info I would love to see a follow-up story. My heart tells me it's a sad story. Great video thanks for taking us along. ✌

Note" The "wardrobe boxes" are called "chifarobes." They were necessary at a time when closets were NOT built into houses - for tax purposes. At one time, a home was taxed by the number of doors inside. Eliminating closets eliminated doors and tax was lower!

In a lot of other countries (I'd say the majority of the world even, perhaps?) built in wardrobes aren't common, or weren't common. In new builds in the last 10-15 years they'd be more common, but in Australia for instance, wardrobes (stand alone, chiffarobes) are by far more common.

It's pretty bad, but I feel enough was done by other people going in to this house. Nobody sleeps on beds tossed on their sides, etc.. I'm thinking people found it easier to abandon the mess than try to sort it. The outside is just as bad as the inside. I've watched enough videos of what homes looked like due to this kind of saving and collecting. I'm not going to be that kind of person. I've got my things I like and they can be seen in a nice way.... the rest is out the door as soon as it's not needed or wanted anymore. The bathroom is really upsetting... and I wonder if others found it fun to throw garbage around. It looked like a garbage bag in the bathroom so I don't see why they'd throw it all over the floor and bathtub. A very disturbing picture your video shows. Game board with pockets is a carrom board. It usually has mini pool sticks, plastic or wood rings for playing games and a lot more. I've grown to see things differently through the years and tire of hearing how it's the right thing to do to leave so much to rot and be buried. I no longer believe that to be true when it's abandoned and just being trashed.

Oh lordy I can't believe you went alone! I was so nervous watching this knowing you were there alone.Great footage and photos. I definitely think there was no running water there at all for a LONG time. I don't remember seeing the kitchen sink or stove or even a microwave oven, leads me to think it may have been a man living there who went out for his meals. My guess is that the mess started because they don't have trash or recycling pickup whether by choice not wanting to pay for it or the house was too far out in the country for service, so instead of finding a way to dispose of stuff it just got stored and taken outside and put in rooms that were no longer occupied by ppl. My guess is that the more modern toys and games were for grandchildren that came to visit. That house became uninhabitable long before 2012 but quite likely someone older still lived there. Ppl don't always hoard things because they want to keep them but because they have no way to dispose of and it becomes overwhelming. A very unhealthy environment and I would guess someone in bad health was living there alone. Thanks for sharing this and the hard work you do providing content for us viewers.

This property showed me the many things ...but that metal barrel with the holes in it was used for burning garbage. Often on farms there was no garbage pick up. At some point the township likely prohibited burning garbage. In the old day's.. farmers'would use an old plow to bury trash. It feels as though the grandparents likely got too old to maintain the farm but had children with trauma issues who were unable to take on the care and maintenance. There may very well have been child abuses going on here. Only the local community as well as the school would have any information about this. Clearly those children were not showing up at their school with clean clothing nor personal hygiene.

My thoughts also. My mom didn't drive, she depended on me for everything after dad had dementia. I cleaned her house every week. But at one time I looked under the kitchen sink and there was empty milk jugs, probably ten of them. I asked her if she was saving them for she had rinsed them out to keep from smelling. She said,no I'm not saving them, they just fill up the trash can faster, plus she had a dog she fed can dog food with the dry, so the trash can got filled up pretty quick. I took them out to my car, put them in the trunk with the bag of garbage. I bought her a large trash can and put it our her back porch. She hated that I had to do so much, but I told her I didn't mind doing it. I know it was lonely for her after daddy died, but she was independent. So maybe these people didn't have a way to the dump.

Sadly extreme hoarders eventually loose water and power. Then buy jugs of water and yes, use buckets to go to the bathroom when they can’t go outside. (and the toilets are full or non functioning) These people were obviously extreme hoarders. Remember all the kerosene heaters scattered? The furnace was old, broke, and they started using those kerosene heaters. Also the appliances that went from old to more advanced is a dead giveaway. Quite a few washing machines. They’d just not throw away anything when it broke down. It’s a condition that’s under the OCD spectrum. I’ll beat the kids grew up, got out fast, and wanted nothing to do with the property. The parents either died or it was too dangerous for them to stay. If you’ve not watched that series “Hoarders” you should. It’s an eye opener. Very sad.

There were some really beautiful antique cupboards etc. I kind of got the feeling that those belonged to the grandparents. But whatever happened after that went down hill. It felt to me like the grandparents had a child with emotional and mental health issues. Just my thoughts.

The house is full of collectibles and some antiques. Their is antique furniture and steamer trunks. Collectibles in toys, electronics like the Atari game console. Collectible movie camera. Collectible cosmetic jewelry. The electric guitar would have some value. Collectible bowling alley signs and pins. Collectible kerosene lamps. Collectible glass bottles. You would need patience working through everything. So wouldn't miss anything. You could enough to open a small antique and collectibles shop. Here is an idea. You buy the property at land value. You drop down a large metal shed near the main road and set it up. You drop further back dumpster for trash and another one for recyclables. Bring in a scrap metal guy to remove the metals. Take the rubber tires to be recycle.

There were probably several generations of family living there. Or, it was the family home, and the younger generation moved in, after the grandparents passed. They just never bothered to clean it out. They were raised like that, grew used to it, and lived like that, as well. It didn't bother them. Children of hoarders develop the mindset, "It's not MY mess, so I'm not cleaning it." Although, I would LOVE to go in there to explore all the old stuff, even though it's messy...☺️ Use some gloves, mask, and a bunch of trash bags, I would be in heaven! My mother-in-law was a hoarder of NEW things. She had a shopping addiction, and would buy things she didn't need, or already had. She loved the IDEA of doing crafts, but just never did them, but collected tons of fabrics, craft paint, brushes, etc. She would shop, and she wouldn't even take it out of the bag, just pile it everywhere. But if you tried to clean, she would get MAD as HELL!! "Don't you tough my stuff! I have it right where I want it!! I know where EVERYTHING IS AT, and if you MOVE IT, I won't know where to find it, when I NEED it!!" Crazy, crazy-making behavior! When she died, my father-in-law sold everything on Facebook and Ebay, and sold the house. Don't blame him at all. He lived in that crazy, for 35 yrs! But that's an amazing home, and a shame all that history will be lost! Everything has value to somebody. The bank probably wishes people WOULD go take stuff! 😆

I'm surprised that you didn't come across any photos out of all that stuff in there. To me, it looks like a couple of generations lived in the home. The Grandmother's home, in which her son or daughter with their children at one point. Then the younger generation left Grandmother with everything and to die alone. I didn't even see a place anymore could sit or sleep in there. It always gets my imagination going, seeing all that. Great video!

While I understand the troubles with hoarding, my husband is a long term antiques collector, a short time before I met him he ran into a financial pinch and made serious adjustments to how he lived to save enough of the money he did make for tax payments and food, etc. one of those adjustments was to not replace a broken lawnmower for a summer causing his place to look overgrown and almost abandoned. Repeatedly while he was at work, a neighbor from a property adjoining his in the back, entered his property from the back and picked through as well as removed select antiques from his place. A friend of his was prepping for hunting season in the woods out back and caught the guy on trail camera leaving the yard carrying an old toy truck that belonged to my (future) husband. Many important antique heirlooms, tools, and personal items were discovered gone. The sheriff deputy was unable to get very far in persecuting the guy. My husband finally caught and confronted him at a deceased neighbors property next door to him. Despite the guy threatening to have a gun, he seems to have stopped entering unwantedly

That side door going to the basement is probably just an outside entrance to the basement. My mom had one in our old house. My niece lives there now. She left it open for the meter reader and any repairman that had to do repairs. The basement had the washer dryer and all electrical and wiring components needed to run the home. It was also good when someone got really dirty playing outside. They would come in the side door and would have clean clothes waiting. After changing the dirty clothes would go to the washer. I loved that side door. My niece has the house now.

You do so well at exploring abandoned places. I think this is your niche! I think they had lived in the mountains of stuff for a very long time, based on the very dirty door frames and marks along the hallway wall. They braced themselves against the wall to walk on stuff and braced themselves with the door frame to hoist themselves up onto the stuff to enter the rooms. But that is just my opinion. I love how you took your time and didn’t rush through it. I also love how you always look for a date to date when it was last lived in. A lot of explorers don’t look for a date. Keep up the excellent work!

I bought an adult sized one a few years ago with the intent of using it to exercise, then it occurred to me I wasn't 9 anymore and would probably break my neck. Too bad they don't come with safety features so we older folks don't get tossed if we lose our balance!

You probably should wear masks when you enter into those types of houses because you can see all the dusk particles floating around reflected in the light. There may also be spores in the air disturbed by movements. My dad tore down old houses and inhaled spores that nearly took his life. Please be careful and wear masks in these homes you explore. I am a registered nurse and know masks can save you.
