I loved the Protego Diabolica's blue flames, but would've given everything to see it as black flames. I think Protego Diabolica is a more powerful spell; if you lose concentration with it, it'll still destroy everything in its path. If you lose concentration with the Patronus, it may even disappear or fizzle out.

@@jenniferverge6208 Though Dolores Umbridge's actions was "evil" seen by us, she didn't have evil intent, I mean the reason she joins Hogwarts is to "protect the children", she just goes in the more "punishing and authoritarian way" that we dislike, if she had simply stated that "I'm sorry harry, but I simply don't have any evidence to believe you in" she would've been a lot less hateable, but she certainly does some things that make her very "hateable" especially because we're invested in harry and such. But all that said, she isn't "evil" in the same way that Voldemort is. (and more importantly, doesn't have strictly evil intent)

As for how Harry performed the patronus of the stag in the scene that is continually shown in this video... If anyone is a Dresden Files fan (which you REALLY should be) then you'll know that you can only perform magic that you truly believe in, to put it simply. So, I've always chalked it up to that form of thought. Harry saw himself perform a patronus so he not only believed but knew he could perform it then. However, there's still the whole "What came first, the chicken or the egg?" problem lol

As a fan of Pullman's His Dark Materials, I believe that the corporal potronus has the form of a soul beast, dæmon or spirit animal. I like this because it implies the best way to fight dementors and therefore depression is with you own deep personality. In a way that's why I think that deatheaters or those of dark intent not only can't summon one or have no need to do so. If your intent is to harm someone in the worst way possible, then the demontor is unlikely to attack you. Also other lesser known tricks include understanding yourself and focusing on a purpose. My evidence is Sirius being more composed than most prisoners in Azkaban because he knew he was innocent and Harry being able to resist the Dementors by thinking of the people who needed him.

The Umbridge issue can easily be explained I think... The only time she is using the spell is when the Dementors are guarding her...not causing harm As for the happy memory, well you can imagine that she is at her happiest when doing the exact job we see her doing in the movie, seeing others suffer makes her happy, especially when she is in a position of power to do so.

I would say that fiendfyre is MUCH more powerful as far as a sheer blunt force. Protego Diabolica is a MUCH more elegant force but is fully capable of becoming as blunt a force as Fiendfyre. My question is, how does Umbridge have a cat Patronus as her only joy is causing others pain and misery. Nothing about her is pure as her fake outward facade hides a deep darkness. I know that the only thing that made her hesitate from joining the Death Eater ranks is she wanted to maintain her outward appearance of legitimacy.

To be honest, I believe that the Legend of Raczidian and Illyius is just that, a legend told as a cautionary tale about the dangers of dark magic and his death if it happens wasn't due to him trying to summon a patronus. The reason why I believe this to be the case, is Umbridge. There are fewer characters in Harry Potter more despicable and it is easy to imagine that the happy memories she used to keep her Cat-Patronus active was of her stepping on people.

For a somewhat more European origin, the Norse tradition has Fylga (I probably spelled that wrong) . Anyway it is the animal form of a protective spirit. It can be attached to a specific person or passed down through the family, it can even be inherited by someone who os not blood related. If the patronus is a family thing, this would fit quite well. If the Patronus is actually Soul Magic, which the love connection leads me to believe it is, then it would make sense that true loves share a Patronus form, such as Lily's Doe complimenting James' Stag. Or Lupin and Tonks' wolf Patronuses. It also covers Harry's Patronus being a Stag like his father. Of course this also accepts that multiple people in the same family might have very different Patronuses, as every family has their differences.

Has anyone ever noticed that Linda Rosiet might be the grandmother of Evan Rosiet, one of Voldemort's death eaters. I guess this family is just full of supporters of large scale dark wizards.
