[ADVICE] MY-PHILOSOPHY: "INNER-STRENGTH" I have found that simply "loving myself" (inner-child) is a powerful tool against most types of social-dependency/vulnerability. Example: In my mind, I visualise a picture of my younger self (family albums might help). And I 'remember' what the emotion of genuine love felt like. And then I project those emotions onto the mental visualization of my younger self. I meditate and hold that 'state of mind' for as long as I can. The result? I feel my conscious energy resignating with positivity and renewed strength. And my anxiety immediately evaporates away. At the very least, depending on my levels of anxiety, this mediation practice aids to 'evaporate' much of it. You can do the same thing with "trying to 'remember' temperatures, e.g. hot or cold. And then project that memory onto a visualised heat source (all within your minds eye). You will 'feel' the effects immediately." I hope that this proved helpful.

I'm glad characters like Fudge and Scrimgeour were present in the Harry Potter series. They are a reflection and reminder of similar people in our own world. And there are a lot of them. I really liked your breakdown of the Ministry and Wizarding World in general and how it's really a very divided and prejudiced place. I think it's genius storytelling to make us so fascinated and enamoured with this magical world while simultaneously incorporating so many negative things into this society that a lot of people just don't notice or refuse to acknowledge. Again, another similarity between the Wizarding World and our own world. Letting criminals off the hook with minimal or no consequences is also a sad reality esp if they can give valuable information or they have powerful contacts in the government. Same for government (as well as corporate) appointments. Money often trumps merit. Though it should be mentioned that Fudge had no idea that Umbridge had set up the Dememtor attack. I don't know if he knew how harshly she treated student while at Hogwarts, but I think if he did, he would turn a blind eye to most things just to maintain control. Special mention for Mr Weasley who Mrs Weasley believed was never able to progress in the Ministry because the people he worked with looked down on him and thought him too 'pro-Muggle'.

I think one of the biggest mistakes of the wizarding world is it's treatment of squibs. Squibs could do a lot to serve in the community. They could serve as elementary school teachers for young magical children and other squibs. They could also do on and get professional degrees in medicine, the sciences, psychology, teach actual muggle curriculum at Hogwarts. Maybe if a squib became a geneticist they could figure how to unlock the magic gene. By instructing the wizarding community in the hard sciences magic they could understand how they're affecting the world at an molecular, atomic and genetic level

Not really the secret rooms are worse in my opinion, magic that can erase you, turn you into a baby, drive you mad, alter reality, change time/history, contains many prophecies, and even those who work there do not know where all the doors lead much less what everything does. That is horrifying and people had on multiple occasions, even once in large enough numbers to have a battle in some of the rooms snuck in meaning absolutely no security worth a damn.

Yeah but they can’t be destroyed or really dealt with in anyway. So how else do you manage them? At least that way they stay at the island and not go for muggles but otherwise they’d be eating peoples souls left and right. I’d say they need to find out more about how that psycho made them to find a way to unmake them, make like a patronus sword, something that can harm them.

I 100 % agree Dean! Well said! The ministry of magic was driving me crazy in both the books and movies. It wasn't until I first read the books that I understood the movies were even gentle when showing us the corruption levels. Also classifying Thestrals as dangerous creatures. Really? There wasn't a single page during the OOTP to DH books telling us about a Thestral attack. On a contrary if they are respected they are even helpful.

I also do martial arts for 25 years and that helps me to control anger and resist acting in a violent way. Meditation is a way for me to train the soul and the physical part of it for my body.

Hermione, after being voted Minister for Magic (a Muggleborn), updated the Wizarding World means of communication. By injecting normal batteries with Dragon's Blood, a muggle hand held phone can be used to place calls to other phone. It was something Arthur Weasley discovered while tinkering with Muggle radios and other electric powered devices. She also lifted the ban on werewolves getting gainful employment. Wolfsbane was supplies to then on a regular basis like prescription medicine from St. Mungo's. As for Ministry security, which has often been to most inept department due to corruption, was reformed by the Hero of the Wizarding World, the Chosen One, The Boy Who Lived, the Conqueror of the Dark Lord -- Harry Potter. And in time he became Head of the Department of Law Enforcement for the entire Ministry.

The guy blew up a bridge filled with people after Fudge refused to resign, and he used trolls to destroy a city (if I remember correctly) which the ministry used memory charms to make the muggles think it was a hurricane. And let's not forget Dumbledore said in the first book that they had nothing to celebrate for ever 11 years. Sooooo yeah I think he was pretty bad, however, he was a terrorist technically speaking, and I don't think states in real life send their military to fight off terrorists in another state.

He wasn’t a world threat at the very moment that the books took place but I think it’s safe to say that he was would have definitely turned his attention towards the rest of the world after conquering Great Britain/UK. He believed in wizard supremacy and that would have included wizards from every other continent as well. I don’t think he would have been satisfied with just taking over the UK at all. But most tyrants start small and build up. Usually only cartoony villains that are destined to fail start out with world domination as their goal.

Aunt marge didn't actually fly down the street. In the books she just stayed in the house blown up. It's a good thing that Kingsley became a minister and together with Harry, Ron and Hermione revolutionized the ministry and changed corrupt laws.

Another point to think about is that when Harry was forcible entered into the Tri - Wizard Tournament, he was emancipated because he was forced into a magical contract. This could be entered into by an of age wizzard, or witch. When Umbridge sent the two dementors, Harry was forced to defend Dudley, and himself. Further, he is an of age wizzard.

Their justice system was straight out of the Middle Ages. I think of Sirius Black. Apparently solicitors do not exist in the wizarding world. Defendants are not allowed to produce evidence to defend themselves, only the state can produce evidence. It is very one sided. You are guilty till proven innocent, but how do you prove your innocence if you are not allowed a defense? Harry had Dumbledore protecting him, and he was one step ahead of Fudge and The Ministry. I noticed throughout the whole series that nothing had changed since the four founders lived. Everything is antiquated, I don't see how Muggles adjust to living without modern technology.

One thing the wizarding world gets better than the muggle world is that they don't really care about race/ethnicity as much as the muggle world, they care more about blood status (pure/half/mudblood) and magical abilities

Just wanted to put two questions to you, Dean. 1. How competent do you think Mr Weasley was at his job? Was it just his political leanings that prevented him from rising up in ranks at the Ministry? 2. How well do you think the Ministry would be run under Hermione? And do you think she would be a good politician considering her character is more of an activist in the series and politics requires a lot of diplomacy, maneuvering and manipulation, esp in an institution as corrupt as the Ministry. (Personally I don't think the top job would be something suited to Hermione)

The main problem is that the Ministry was founded by people who lived under siege. Nowadays, magic and wizarding is legend to Muggles. But the war went so badly, that, when wizarding-kind went into hiding, they laid down vastly restrictive laws from a top-heavy leadership, and this never changed. Or any time change was attempted, it was thwarted by entrenched supremacists. Their solutions never evolved - why only one prison for all levels of scofflaw? Let's have a secondary prison - we'll call it Highlock, and while not a wonderful place, it makes Azkaban with or without dementors look like Hogwarts. Fletcher and his ilk go there. If you were a cooperative Death Eater, you spend ten years there instead of life in Azkaban. No free rides. Finally, the problem is as it always is with government types: Who seeks to work there? The most committed. Either the prime idealist, who can end up worn down, or the most power-hungry and bigoted, looking to counter what they see as the wrong or radical influences - whether they are or not. There is a quote from JFK which goes to the effect of, he was surprised upon taking office that things were almost as bad or worse than what he alleged in his presidential campaign. I can only imagine Kingsley learning this once he took the most halting efforts at reform. One thing I hope he did - diminished the cozy relationship between the Ministry and the Daily Prophet. Otherwise, the Prophet is a State News Agency and of no worth.

They allowed dark wizards like Voldemort and the death eaters to rise instead of adapting young students to some sort of unbreakable vow never to use the dark arts or something like that. Most of them are racist and have slaves...
