I'm from the old school days (58 years old) and have been cleaning Nike with a dot of regular toothpaste and water, and a toothbrush. Comes out very clean in less time, cheaper, and doesn't loosen the sneaker in the washer. I was just curious, but thanks for your effort.

It can make a bigger mess, the pretreatment is meant for the breakdown of dirt and then the washer flushes the dirt out of the harder materials.
