Yup, the way I got over my social awkwardness with dating when i was 12-13 was to just try to have fun and be a lighter version of myself, I go hard for psychology and philosophy just because I found the interplay of ID/EGO fun to explore, and then try to get to know the other person.

My little anecdote about being a “nice guy”: in high school I had a crush on a friend. She rejected me, and I got upset that she wouldn’t be with a Nice Guy(TM) like me. Not so upset that I did anything nearly as creepy as these dudes, but I was enough of a self-aggrandizing jackass that it ended our friendship. I regretted it immediately, and dwelled on it for years before finally reaching out and trying to make amends. We became good friends. Dated for a while. It didn’t work out because of distance. We’re still really good friends. Nice guys of the world... you can be better.
