Here’s a video showing how to change the brake pads and discs on the rear of my 1999 Mercedes R170 SLK. The video shows the left hand side as I’d already done the drivers side. The process is essentially the same for both sides.

What year is this do you know if it’s different for older/newer models for the brake pads thanks 🙏

Mine was a 1999 model. These were the first generation, the R170 type. The later ones are basically the same mechanically so the process is similar.

do you have the handbrake off throughout the whole process? if so then how do you stop the car from rolling forward?

The drive has a gentle slope to the road, so the car would roll backwards, hence the brick under the rear of the front wheel. It wouldn’t roll forwards as that’s slightly uphill.

@@shoestringmotoring Thanks for the response, my driveway is also slightly uphill and i reverse park into my driveway so when the handbrake is off then slowly my car starts to creep forward, so was thinking what would be the best way to attempt to change my rear brakes. Guess would be better if drive straight in and put the brick under the rear of the front wheel like you have

@@abxal9059 it worked for me, so should be fine. Good luck, Don.
