Toranaga made sure to let the Jesuit priest knew that "the barbarian knew a lot" just to see what they would do about it.

Yabushige only cares about himself and has no true alliances but the actor plays him so weel and has so much charisma that you just can't help to like him.

He's great - his general vibe reminded me so much of his role in Ichi the Killer

The actor was one of the Warriors Three in the MCU's Thor franchise and was killed by Hela in Thor:Ragnarok.

The "I am a dog" scene was improvised on set. The scene was supposed to be Yabushige teaching Anjin how to say 'thank you,' then Tadanobu Asano said he wanted to try something and didn't tell Cosmo Jarvis what he was going to do. Jarvis said it was his favorite line of the series.

what makes Shogan even better is that even though the characters are fictional but they are based on real Japanese historical figures, for example Toranaga is based on Tokugawa Ieyasu who established the powerful Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled Japan during the Edo period in Japan (1603-1868). And Blackthorne is based on William Adams who was the first Englishman to reach Japan & became a trusted advisor to Ieyasu, many others are also based on real people. And the story is also based on real historical events, so not only are we watching a superb drama, but at the same time it's like we're also getting a rough history lesson about what happened in early 1600s feudal Japan concerning the internal political conflicts and the trade agreements Japan had with the Portuguese at the time.

The costume designer intentionally add the feather to Yabushige costume, because she felt his character was "rock n roll" in his own way.

The other lords are playing checkers while Torunaga is playing chess. I love how he is making moves or preparing for future attacks.

8:25 that was a very well written exposition explaining to us about each lords without making it feel like exposition.

American born Cosmo Jarvis who plays John Blackthorne has a wonderful shakespearean accent. His low mellifluous voice sounds like the great English actor Richard Burton or like the Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins.

Richard Burton was Welsh too

That’s because he was born in America but spent virtually all of his life in the UK. And when speaks in interviews there no hint of an American accent. As for sounding like Richard Burton I doubt it as Richard Burton was welsh and you could hear it in his accent

I don't understand why people feel like attacked when people compare two shows to get a point across like there is no way you can explain how the political intrigue feels like without giving an example of show you already watched. We can't explain emotions we can only explain what made you feel like that.

While I am loving the design choices in this new version, I'm sorry that they left out (or rather shifted to a later scene) an absolute banger of a response that Richard Chamberlain's Blackthorn gives to Toranaga about the relations between Portugal and the Dutch/English. It's worth a couple of minutes of your time. :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mn_CpHSfbcmBi6c

As is the case with a lot of shows, there is a change of director and writers in later episodes and while episode 3 is enjoyable it doesn’t quite hit the heights of the first 2 episodes.

The GOT comparisons are ridiculous. And lazy. Clavell's Shogun novel: 1975. Martin's first GOT novel: 1996. Guess who was inspired from who. And history.
