I really dislike the scene where Anjin reunites with his crew. In the book they're all happy to see him. They were drinking all they wanted and banging the lower class women. VERY lower class. Anjin sees them doing unclean things like pissing in the street and how badly they smelled. He become disgusted and leaves. He even throws his kimono away because he felt it was soiled just from being there and he felt severe itching as if soiled himself (or the fleas). It really showed just how much he had changed because of his exposure to the Japanese culture and immediately wanted a bath. Something that they kind of forced on him at the beginning but became so well used to it that he took them regularly.

Let’s have some chewtoys for us fans to theorise over. 1. Considering the ending of this episode: was Nagakado’s death ordered by Toranaga as part of the plan to buy time? Or was he capitalising on it after the fact? 2. Was Hiromatsu actually in on the plan? Or was the plan to deceive his enemies by deceiving his allies about the defeat where some others would protest and can therefore be committed to death for being defiant in that signing ceremony? 3. What is Saeki’s part in all this now? Also, if no theories, at least type F for Hiromatsu-dono; a real ride or die.

1. No way they could orchestrate slipping on a wet kimono and crushing the skull ITP. Capitalized 2. Always part of the plan. Option 2 was in the book. 3. Don't think we'll see him again. For me, the would-be assassination was one of the few WTF moments in the series. There's absolutely no follow-on. Compare to Fuji's husband, who actually didn't even fully unsheath the blade.

@@misieq79 hehe. I like bumping into people with such a levelheaded level of analysis. Most commenters are just blind Toranaga worshippers or are reacting on the cuff of their emotions. So here’s another chew toy for you: back in episode 7 Gin approached Toranaga and deduces what cannot be denied now as his actual plan. Did she used what she deduced to bribe for land in Edo? Is letting “someone” into the Willow World that night part of the deal (places like that are built on reputation and Saeki is a VIP)? And if so, did that “someone” necessarily had to be Nagakado?

The betrayal of Saeki is real. Toranaga is desperate. and his son death is a miracle or godsend even. that let him buy his time with morning period of 49 days and a chance to get back to his stronghold in Edo city. so he use this chance to move the chess pieces.

@@khaii13 I think Toranaga's gift of land was more a token of appreciation for her wits. Him being the only person she could capitalize her knowledge. As for the assassination, with Saeki out of the picture we will never know. And to me this plot makes literally no sense. Normally this would be total dishonor for Toranaga. Also it should trigger a response, most likely execution of a few hostages. Unless Toranaga used the bandits excuse like the Sugiyama case (which sucked too for many reasons). For Gin, taking part in the assassination plot would be suicide, professional or actual. Should Toranaga succeed, she'd still be marked as his pawn, her enterprise to be avoided. And noone to defend her from retribution. Should Toranaga fail, that'd mean her (and her girls') death, prolly slow and painful

welp all the death was toranaga plan, but nagakado death was not on the plan that why toranaga said '' you earned some time for me''. but hiromatsu death was on plan, like if hiromatsu not died ishido will think toranaga still not surrender but if one of his best servant died that will give a big news for ishido.

Hiromatsu death was not in the plan. Toronaga didn't mean to sacrifice him. Hiromatsu did that since his generals were planning to take out their swords. He realised Tonoraga's plan after their stare down and it's too late now. Tonoraga couldn't stop him or his plan will be exposed and Hiromatsu just went along, making sure his paln doesn't ruined.

Do you think yabushige and blackthorne will become actual friends? The chemistry and fooling around is already kinda there but also a somewhat respect for each other
