Suicide is a mortal sin and not allowed whether your second is Christian or not. Lol That's why in real life her historic counterpart was killed by a servant under orders from her husband.

You seem utterly confused about the facts. The fact that he was a Christian wasn't relevant the point was to have someone cut her head off so that she wasn't taking her own life.

Implying Christians don't commit suicide? Remember when Mariko said to Toranaga that she has two hearts? She didn't commit suicide, she protested the unlawful attack.

@@lockekappa500 Was she not in the process of committing suicide when Ishido gave in and allowed her to leave? Suicide is suicide whatever the reason. That's why her real life counterpart didn't do it.

The show plot makes no sense. Mariko is obsessed with revenge against Ishido when he wasn't responsible for her father's death at all. And she is loyal to Toranaga who didn't help her father after the assassination? Plus she hates Buntaro because she thinks she's higher class than him(which isn't true) and because he doesn't let her kill herself? Its all ridiculous. As a samurai wife her primary loyalty is to her husband, not her lord.

Mariko had no interest in Ishido but I agree with you on her and Buntato’s relationship. I don't understand people who despise only Buntaro. Their toxic relationship started with Mariko not understanding her father's true intention behind it. She called the Toda clan (Hiromatsu, Buntaro, Fuji) worthless when she got married.

@@kengo7273 Then I don't understand her loyalty to Toranaga. He didn't help her father either. And her loyalty should be to her husband. Its up to her husband which lord they serve. She would be at home, not wandering around Toranagas place. As you say, she was the least likeable character in the whole show.
