If you want to estimate how Ohtani will perform under the "pressure" of the playoffs you only have to look at how he performed last year in the Baseball Classic. Playing for his country with all the hopes and expectations of that country resting squarely on his shoulders how did he perform? In the semi-final facing elimination by Mexico he led off the 9th with a clutch double which started the winning rally - in the final he comes in as a closer and ends it with the epic strikeout of America's best hitter Mike Trout. He finished as MVP of the tournament - a tournament in which he was probably under more pressure than he will ever feel in MLB playoffs.

Ohtani has broken almost every Dodgers records this season 😂. If not at least that’s what it feels like. 10 RBI…crazy. 50/50 will be very hard to achieve for future players because if you have power you won’t have speed. If you have speed you’ll lack in power.

Plaschke says Ohtani HAS to do it in the playoffs. That's just not realistic. What if the other teams pitch around him every time up? A big part of baseball is there's only a few things you have control over. If he doesn't see a pitch does Plaschke think Ohtani's a loser? That's absurd.
@dannyviveros7095Ай бұрын
Don't listen to these beat writers! They are not EXPERTS, ( this Jack guy included) but have a voice in the media but nothing anyone needs to pay much attention to.
@billw715Ай бұрын
It's not as is if Ohtani has a supporting cast that Barry Bonds had back with the Giants, & it's not as if Ohtani is on the verge of 73 home runs. Why would you pitch around Ohtani to pitch to Mookie Betts & then to Freddie Freeman- then you have Teoscar Hernandez & Max Muncy to pitch to as well? You make no sense. Be reasonable. Of course if Ohtani is being pitched around it will be difficult for him or for "any" player to produce. This is ubiquitous & obvious & it should go without saying. No one is talking about this but you. All things being equal, Ohtani "has" to produce. He's a $700M player. He was signed by the Dodgers to "win" World Series championships & many of them during his contract. Joining the 50-50 club is great but if Ohtani doesn't produce in the playoffs, it's another failed "full" season since 2013 for the Dodgers. The Dodgers have serious starting pitching & bullpen issues so yes, for the Dodgers to win the World Series, they will likely need to be carried by Shohei Ohtani. He can't pull a Clayton Kershaw, offensively, in the playoffs. He needs to produce when the opportunities present themselves.
@billw715Ай бұрын
@@dannyviveros7095 As a Dodgers fan, I want World Series championships. There is no reason why the Dodgers, after making the playoffs for twelve consecutive seasons, should have just "one" World Series championship & a World Series championship from a shortened 60-game 2020 season. And, what these "Beat Writers" are conversing about is hardly negative. So for Bill Plaschke to state that Shohei Ohtani needs to produce like he is now in the playoffs is a bad thing? Even "experts' will tell you that in order for the Dodgers to be successful in the playoffs, Ohtani needs to "show up" in the playoffs. Joining the 50-50 club is great for the regular season but in the playoffs, he'd better perform like the $700M player he is - this is why the Dodgers went after him... to win championships, & I expect Ohtani "show up" in the playoffs. I expect a World Series this season & multiple World Series during Ohtani's contract. There is a reason why Reggie Jackson was called Mr. October & that's what Plaschke is saying Ohtani needs to be to help the Dodgers get to & win the World Series. What in the world is wrong with that? He's right. The Dodgers year in & year out lose due to their pitching issues in the playoffs & they have serious pitching issues again. There's no Tyler Glasnow, Dustin May, Emmett Sheehan, Gavin Stone or River Ryan. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is questionable. Walker Buehler hasn't pitched well overall since returning from injury & he's likely not going to re-signed. Maybe Tony Gonsolin returns from injury but he was awful last season before he got injured. If the Dodgers want to win a World Series, the offense is going to have to carry this team led by Ohtani. It's as simple as that & there is nothing negative for saying that the best player on the Dodgers, & arguably in the history of MLB, has to put his game into a higher gear & lead this team in the playoffs.

Nothing at all against Ohtani's great performance, but the third homer should have an asterisk with it. Marlin's bullpen ran out, and their second baseman was throwing easy floaters in there, as per the All-star Home Run Derby. Any good hitter could have knocked one of those out.
