More people are watching Baseball because of Shohei then any other time in history. In a divided world with anger politics, craziness, war and death he has been a bright star of hope. He has united people of the world behind a man from Japan that comes to the USA to play a competitive sport in decline for years with the joy of a child. Even his opposing players & teams speak well of him. Giving his all every day in a graceful humble excitement. All I wish is it goes on forever because there has been only 2 things in the news worth watching Baseball and Space.

Everything you said is absolutely true. Nothing brings people more together than watching an exemplary human being make history right before our eyes all the while having virtues that is so upstanding, it makes you re-evaluate yourself. His passion for the game is almost child-like (in a good way) and so apparent that it is contagious. I really hope he gets big enough that he has a positive effect on society to strive to be better morally and ethically. Anyways great post…now here comes the haters haha.

I have no doubt next season Shohei-san will do even better but he is already so good, it boggles the mind to think what he could accomplish going forward. Some of why some of his numbers weren't as good as they should've been last yr (batt avg, number of wins) is due to factors beyond his control. If they stop pitching to him, the man can't get his average up. And the wins being only 9 is largely due to the Angels hitters not giving him nearly enough run support, esp late in the season. His losses being so low is really the best clue to how good a pitcher he really is. I wish so badly LAA would bring in a top-tier pitching ace, a guy older than Ohtani to fire up all the starters. Seen it so many times--the best make the already great even better. The competitive fire that resides inside Ohtani--and make no mistake, it's there--would absolutely ignite into a massive blaze if another ace came into the starting rotation. The resulting energy might wake up the entire team. Too bad Dodgers got Scherzer already; he would've been perfect. He's an ass but he's a competitive beast at the top of his game.... GO HALOS 2022

They're as fiercely competitive and driven to be the best as any other culture but you won't hear them crowing about it once they've attained it. @@ipman6039 In such a delicate issue and times, I did not want to leave anything to imagination, reason why I clarify when I said the prejudiced word. Moving forward, is The most complete pitcher in the league having confidence issues because his English is not perfect? has he never heard a Spanish speaker in the league yet? There is not a sense of perfection at all.. Nah, I think he is using a marketing strategy so he can make more money out of his deal in Japan. To conclude, becoming an American citizen or an American Icon for the MLB requires responsibility and Honor if coming from another country, the less you could do is learn the lenguajes ajust to the new culture which you own respect over money or (personal choices), same reason why he does not need an explanation or a reason because our freedom, (Free to do and be) and I respect that as well, just a point of view as a retired baseball player and fan.

@@capitanboss But he clearly addresses his confidence issues within himself in his interviews. He even stated that he is learning english at his own pace but he came here for his job and that is to play baseball. Just like how US soldiers stationed in Japan dont have a high japanese fluency rate.

@@capitanboss Also when learning a new language you might be able to fully understand what the other person is saying as you can see when he acknowledges questions before his translator gets to it or even answers prematurely as well. But when it comes to relaying that to others in a way that you want it to come out especially with the pressure of television and critics i personally think a translator is your safest bet. Its not just words that need to be translated but grammar and slang so to speak. Explain florida slang to an immigrant.
