Not Gretzky. Nobody in hockey has ever come anywhere near his records. One guy is getting close to his total goals for career but that's about it. I saw some guy post that if Gretzky had a batting average it would be .472 Othani might get there by the end of his career but right now 99 is still, by far the greatest team athlete of all time in terms of the gap between him and every other player in history.

Usually this kind of over the top hyperbole with "best game ever" etc annoys me but what Shohei pulled off is legitimately insane. It's one thing for Ohtani to have a 50/50 season. It's quite another if he manages to do it by hitting say 1 HR in a game to get to 50 HR's and perhaps a SB in another game to get to 50 SB. Instead he went 6/6 with 3 HR and 2SB's and he also hit a double that came very close to being a HR. He nearly hit 4 homers, he also nearly hit for the cycle, he came close to getting a triple one play. No player in baseball history has ever hit 3HR and gotten 2SB in one game before. And he did it on the game that he became the first player in baseball history to reach 50/50 All of that is insane on its own but he also broke the Dodgers single game RBI record in the game with 10 RBI's! And he also broke Shawn Green's all time Dodgers single season HR record yesterday with his 50th. To call it a "record setting day" for him is a hilarious understatement. He didn't just break records, he obliterated them in unbelievable fashion.

Yeah but, if you picked say, 10 Barry Bonds, and 16 of whoever you think the best pitcher in history is, they’d beat the 26 Shohei team handily Virtually no position players also pitch at a high level, so even if Shohei was considerably worse, a 26 Shohei team would still be the best choice for that type of team
@Alart28
@Alart28 Сағат бұрын
@@ifbfmto9338 exactly, you would need 2 players. Nobody would beat a team of Shoheis, just like a team of Michael Jordans would beat 12 versions of any other player. Magic might be 2nd. It's the best way to see who is the true G.O.A.T.

This was the greatest offensive performance in a single game ever. It has some competition, such as the game in may of 2012 where Josh Hamilton of the Rangers went 5-5 with 4 HR and 8 RBI and hit a double for 18 total bases. However, that was a meaningless game for Josh and the Rangers in mid may. Ohtani was doing this in a game that clinched his team a playoff spot. He did this 10 RBI game with 2 steals and got to 51 steals and HR's for the season with it. Given the pressure, and given the significance of the game to his team, this was the greatest single game performance .

@laartwork
@laartwork 26 минут бұрын
You say that as if the league is going crazy stealing bases. He went on first pitch so throw overs didn't matter. His caught % is the third lowest in mlb history for those with 50+ stolen bases. Historically legitimate? So throw out Babe Ruth, Ted Willams, Ty Cobb and anyone who didn't allow the best black players. Also if course throw out anything from the steroid era. The first 40/40 player was a steroid user...hmmm now that makes Henderson his team mate suspect too. Don't think 3 inches matters. Maybe he would have broke the record a couple games later... the record was 42/42 in case you are wondering. 50/50 just sounds nice.

It's amazing but everyone overrates stolen bases. He's got 7.8 WAR this year. That's great but not nearly close to one of the best seasons ever. Until you're being intentionally walked 120 times a year you are not in the conversation.

The guy is slow out of the box and can't make it to 3rd. He pitches too many innings overall and blows out his arm. He could have been on the mound and gotten the W with 10 strikeouts along with his 10 RBIs and the cycle. It was an okay day, but it truly could have been great - the most disappointing underachiever of all time is more like it. And yes, I am an Aaron judge fan, why do you ask?

Not the best performance in sports because it wasn’t perfect and athletes have been perfect. Not the greatest baseball game, that would be a perfect game in the WS. Best offensive game? Yes. No 7/7 game has ever been achieved so his 6/6 is tied for most hits. Only other 10 RBI game were not of this consequence and this late (12 RBIs in 1993is most since Reggie in 1969). Add the two steals, the 17 bases and 5 extra base hits and the 50/50 and it’s not really even close.

The Stolen bases are insane but I would like to know how many times he scored after stealing a base or how many times he was left on base? if he scored a lot on those stolen bases that is a lot more impressive to me

The answer to your question is based on the hitters behind Ohtani in the lineup, which negates the importance of your question.

He is 2nd in Runs in major league behind Witt 124. Ohtani has 123

No way I would put Ripken's streak ahead of Joe Dimaggio's 56 game consecutive hit streak. Also can stupid ESPN please not show posts from current NBA players related to baseball? Baseball should have absolute zero to do with those prima donna basketball players.

He did it against our minor league team...The Marlins. People went to the game just to watch him because we don't know any of our own players names.

That second hit looks like the pitcher gave the easiest ball to hit. It looks like he wanted him to hit that ball out of the park.

Lol yeah that was 51 and his 3rd HR of the game. It was in the Marlins park in Miami and the pitcher threw 2 pitches a mile outside like he was going to walk him and his home crowd started boo'ing him like crazy. I thought the same thing and if you watch Ohtani's reaction he also thought the same thing. I don't think the guy wanted to be booed by his own fans. 🤣🤣
