@@trevorcarey3997 I don't want to accuse Ohtani prematurely...but someone is completely lying right in the face of the American people, completely changing their story after that ESPN interview. It's kind of a strange odd story. Why would anyone have let the interpreter go on ESPN with that made up story? Shohei's legal team is distancing him from Ippei by accusing him of "theft" so it is slightly more complicated. It's either a tactic to make Ippei fall for everything or from legal perspective they uncovered more serious crime such as Ippei defrauding Shohei with his "debt" as a cover. Most suspicious concern is why would Ippei wire the money directly out of Shohei's account to the bookie. He should have wired it to somewhere else first.

Now he makes $50 million a year in endorsements and deferred $680 million for 10 years and would have deferred all of it but it was not allowed and he was required to take at least $2 million a year. Clearly he doesn't care about money. As for gambling, what evidence do you have that he gambles? The guy played two positions in MLB, consuming all his waking hours to training and playing whereas all other players only had to concentrate on one thing. Moreover, he is constantly busy with making appearances and doing commercials and giving interviews. Do you think he has time, or even the inclination to gamble? Zero evidence of that.

Sounds like Ippei told the truth, then the lawyers pumped the brakes (possibly the organization) because they didn’t like how that can look on Shohei (many people absolutely would think that he was proxy betting through Ippei) so they changed the story to “theft”. Ippei had a massive gambling problem, he probably DID bet on baseball too, he for sure knew it was illegal. When he went in the hole for millions, he had to come clean to Shohei cause he knew Shohei would get him out. Among the four major sports in the United States, baseball is arguably the most mentally challenging and demanding. The mental demands stem largely from the significant amount of downtime compared to other sports, providing players ample opportunity to think, which can often lead to tension, pressure, and anxiety. Baseball is a thinking man's game that requires patience, preparation, and the ability to adjust on the fly. As Hall-of-Famer Yogi Berra famously said, 'Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical. How on earth is Shohei Ohtani able to accomplish so much that required his full attention and time to GAMBLE. Gambling effect the mind.

In theory it would seem possible to have had the interpreter, who evidently become a close friend, placing his bets by proxy but there wouldn’t be a point doing that since the money was wired directly from Ohtanis account to the bookies associate. I would at least hope for smarter than that. Ohtani suing the dents for a close friend with a problem to get him out of a tight spot could make sense with it being a bookie. Who knows what terms the debt must have been at and I could see a bookie extending the credit knowing how close he is to Ohtani and he’d collect by blackmailing the interpreter which would probably be effective because even with zero ties at all Ohtani and his camp aren’t going to want that association being public when it involves somebody so close to Ohtani. And the initial explanation for why Ohtani paid the associate was because he didn’t trust his friend not to gamble the money and that also would make sense if he truly was addicted and may not have appreciated the legal issues to clear it with lawyers. That wouldn’t shock me if you look at how they’ve fumbled their response to this. Before they addressed anything they should have hammered it out with his lawyers but obviously they didn’t seeing his spokesperson throw the interpreter to tell all about it, immediately disavow all he’d said and point to the lawyers who then say it was a theft. And then the interpreter recanting all he said and claiming Ohtani never knew the gambling debts and hadn’t sent the money. Who knows what it truly was but based on what’s happened it makes the most sense that he paid his debts and then the legal team flipped it and made him recant because sending the money was still an issue and since the interpreter will go down either way he’s probably willing to take the full fault, Ohtani not press charges or push for anything, and get by without much of a penalty and protect Ohtani. But who even knows at this point - just what seems most logical of things as they stand until another bomb comes.

How does an interpreter even have access to Ohtani's money? Unless dude has a CPA why does he have that type of access to his money. No bookie is going to give that much line of credit without knowing they can cover it. Either the interpreter was using Ohtani's name to get a big line of credit or he was placing bets for Ohtani. It's just hard for me to believe the guy was stealing. Sounds like he may be the fall guy.
