The saddest thing about the end of the song, is that he is saying that in the morning, he will be walked arm in arm to his executed and then he will finally go back home to be layed to rest under the old oak tree 🌳 beneeth the green, green grass of home. Elvis's version is also beautifully sung. ❤

I was in high school 🏫 1969-72 and in 1969-71 was the TV 📺 show "This is Tom Jones", I would watch it every week and he had lot's of stars 🌟 on the show, one-time he had Janis joplin they sang the song "Raise Your Hand "🎵 😂 a great song to react to, your reaction was good👍 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ Gary😊

Tom Jones is now 80+ and can STILL belt out songs, he's lost none of his power or story telling ability. In this one "There's a guard and there's a sad old Padre on and on we walk 'til daybreak "❤ This is a man walking to his death and the last line is "As they lay me 'neath the green green grass of home" in other words they send his body back to be buried beneath the grass. It's incredibly sad ❤️❤️

Tom Jones and Elvis were very good friends. Whenever they appeared in Vegas at the same time, each would make sure to attend some of the shows of the other. Thanks for reacting to this song. Another great one you might like is Delilah. 👏👏🥰

It's about a prisoner with a death sentence. Written by Claude Putnam Jr. Porter Wagoner's version hit #4 on the country charts in 1965. Tom Jones' version hit #1 worlwide in 1966.

And so I did check it out. I didn't love it, but surprisingly, I didn't hate it either. I never cared for his treatment of Dolly Parton after all she did for him, so that colors things a bit for me, I guess.

I’m so happy this was your first experience ! Tom Jones is Goat . He’s still alive ❤ My mom and dad went and saw him more than once . She said women were throwing pantries and bras at him on stage . And a woman threw a compact mirror and hit him with it I think .

Porter Wagoner sang this song also. He was Dolly Parton's singing partner in the sixties.

I only needed to hear part of this to know I love it too, brother. Johnny Cash has a nice version of it too - it’s rougher around the edges than this one but that’s what you want from JC.

I found you several months ago, Shon. Always react when you react to oldies -- since I am old. You are so good, I was surprised to find out you've only been doing this for a year ➕. Ahh, such good memories. I was 8 years old, 1965. Had a caregiver who was from Great Britain. She talked about having seen a young, brand new singer, perform. She said she knew he would go on to be known internationally. His name was Tom Jones. I like It's Not Unusual. And What's New, Pussycat? Blessings, Shon.

Love Tom! 💘🎶🔥🔥🔥. Would love for you to react to Robin Gibb doing "Ellan Vallin" with the young people of a college choir. The song is the unofficial anthem of The Isle of Man, the place where Robin and his fraternal twin Maurice, and their older brother Barry Gibb, were born. The filming of the stirring song begins in the large sanctuary of a beautiful chapel, and, as Robin and the young people continue singing, the footage takes you outside to the green hills and stunning vistas of the wild coastland of the island. Very moving! This was recorded not long before Robin passed away, but his unique voice and tremelo hadn't changed from his early years as part of the Bee Gees. He always touched my heart with his combination of vulnerability and strength.

Hi Shon, your comment on wrongful imprisonment reminded of Bob Dylan’s 1976 true story song about Ruben “Hurricane” Carter. It was something of a catalyst in righting a wrong and dealt with police discrimination and racial profiling. Check it out if you don’t already know it. Love your work and the range of music you each to. ❤

Haha first - loved your comment about the cranium working sometimes. That literally made me laugh out loud. I love your love of Tom Jones! He is truly amazing. I’ve seen him live 3 times and each time he blew me away. If you haven’t reacted to his “I Who have nothing”, you are missing out. The vocals and range are insane. Thanks for always making me smile!

You gotta make sure you listen closely to the words of this song, because some reacters aren’t getting it. Also, it’s one of those songs ya gotta listen to all the way through before commenting. It’s not what you think it’s about. If you do get it, you’ll be surprised what it IS ABOUT. I see you got it somewhat, but did you get the part at the end where they lay him beneath the green green grass of home. HE WAS PUT TO DEATH and HE WAS BROUGHT HOME AND BURIED UNDER THE OLD OAK TREE ‘NEATH THE GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME.
