"Bat Out Of Hell" is one of the best albums in music history. Meat Loaf was a great singer, performer and actor. And a really nice guy. RIP Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman.

“Bat Out of Hell” is one of those rare “perfect” albums where every track is a banger. The title track is extraordinary for its energy - but “For Crying Out Loud” is possibly one of the best love songs ever written and performed.

Jim Steinman (piano) wrote all of the songs on this album. Unfortunately, we lost both of them within a few of months of each other.😭😭😇😇 I still have this album on vinyl. "Yes, I know you're lookin' for a ruby in a mountain of rocks, but there ain't no Coupe deVille hiding at the bottom of a crackerjack box".

Poignant lyrics. I wonder if two people ever find the 'right one' and truly love each other. It seems in 99% of cases one person loves another person more, and the other person 'settles' for the person who they think loves them --- but they really love someone else far away.

I don’t think meatloaf gets enough credit for his incredible voice ! I don’t know about anyone else, but my take on this song is he’s talking about the same girl in the beginning as he is in the end of the song ! I think it’s a dead giveaway when he says you’ve been cold to me so long I’m crying icicles instead of tears … and when he says, there was only one girl that I will ever love, he’s talking about who she was before

Gotta give props to Jim Steinman, the pianist and lyricist of Meatloaf’s songs. Did you catch that the first part of this song he’s breaking up with a girl and telling her two out of three ain’t bad and at the end of the song he’s telling us about a girl he loved a long time ago and that she said the exact same thing to him when breaking up with him.

I used to think this was the saddest song ever. But my POV has changed over the years. In addition to the obv heartbreak, I also think there's something in this song that is about the old expression: "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good". Or if you're a 60's or 70s kid, then a version of "Love the one you're with...". Maybe it's just that the older I get, the more realistic (and lower maybe?) my expectations for relationships are.

This is such a clever song. Yet very down to earth as opposed to some poetic love song... very earthy and gritty. And the way it turns around and he ALSO had been told she would never love him... how the chain of unrequited love goes on and on sometimes...

Hi Shon, According to a Meatloaf Interview, he was singing to and about the same Girl. They were together Years earlier. She wanted more than Him. At that time he told her she'll never find her Gold or oil on a Beach or a Street, or a Ruby in a Mountain of Rocks. She came back to Him Years later when she decided that he was the one for Her. He couldn't love Her like he did before, Only the Girl that didn't Break his Heart ❤️ years earlier.
